I ******* love Spacehog!

I've always had a soft spot for Primus.

That Resident Alien album is just pure class, amazes me Spacehog weren't huge and with Primus I find I like them more just say every now and then but I've always kinda considered them a singles band never really got into whole albums of theirs but Green Naugahyde is IMO top to bottom their most coherent album.

Green Naugahyde is a classy album, although Antipop was quite good from start to finish too, and it features plenty of guest appearances. You're right though; Primus isn't the most listener-friendly band out there, but the high points are epic.

On Spacehog, why the hell weren't they huge? The appeared to have it all; the kickarse songs, the look, the enigmatic frontman...

By the way, Resident Alien is 20 years old next month.

I do really like Antipop I think it's the album with their best songs but Green Naughayde just seems more focused and sits best overall with me.

20 years? My god. I used to have Spacehog's second album 'The Chinese Album' but traded it in many years ago which I still regret. Not too many bands I can sit their and listen to a full live show and start to get bored but last night listened to two full sets of theirs, this one in Toronto is good.

Yes he managed to restrain himself from singing about magic, rings, rainbows and elfs for the majority of that album from memory. Still a few gratuitous references to dragons and kings though. On the whole some good driving riffs underpinning that powerful voice of his.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Nice work! I'm a big fan of "Necroticism: Descanting the Insalubrious". No other band can combine death metal stylings with lyrics that come from an anatomical text-book like Carcass.

The early nineties was a great time that spawned so many great extreme metal bands: Morbid Angel, Godflesh, Bolt Thrower, Entombed to name a few.

Frank Zappa's "You Are What You Is".

Image

Not bad. Like most of his rock work it's a bit inaccessible if you're not a Zappa fan, but there's some great musicianship (Steve Vai on guitar) with some trademark witty social commentary that deserves a listen.

Also, interesting to read some of the previous discussion about Primus. Their irreverence and boundary-pushing musicianship IMHO borrows a lot from Frank Zappa.
