Bassett is going to Port next year, he wasnt overlooked.
Egan will get the interim gig

Best quote I've seen so far:

James Hird's 2014 study in France & $750,000+ payout in 2016 reminds me of line in Frontline: "Do the crime, do the time ... in style."

If you watched a video of Hird's career from start to finish, it would be like watching Breaking Bad and Walter White's descent from nice guy to villain.

because he only agreed to the suspension if he got offered another contract.

AFL suspension wasn't it? The club could have refused to sign him and let Hird fight it out with the AFL. Hard to see the AFL losing that one. They resigned him mostly out of pride. The club line was that they did nothing wrong, if they took that view they couldn't support the suspension and the extention was their way of thumbing it to the AFL. If they pay him out I guarantee the AFL would help.

Had to happen. Word is he 'resigned'.

He was sacked, he was told last night and has accepted it with a pay out.
Players voted yesterday arvo to keep him but the board did what was best for the club

Bloody hell Jim, you keeps banging on about the players wanting him to stay but which recent effort suggests he still had the players? The crows game? The Saints game?

Yep agree with Grahaml. The contract extension was Essendons way of thumbing the AFL. nice work there, only going to cost another 750k.

Out of respect to the fallen James Hird, fans Australia wide are asked to place hypodermic needles on their front doorsteps.

The players are mentally shot and just over it ATM.
The majority of players still love him and as bizarre as it sounds they were devestated at todays announcement even though deep down they knew it was coming. The players have told the board numerous times they wanted him to stay. The coteries pulled the trigger on Hird, he lost the support of the clubs powerbrokers and they have done what they deemed necessary

I was listening to MMM with Billy and JB tonight and some Essendon stooge (Andrew Welsh ?) was carrying on about how all Hird ever wanted was the best for the players and only ever thought of their best interests...

Does anyone apart from ex-Essendon players/teammates of Hird actually believe the crap they spew forth...???
