The oval is in tip top condition & the new wall & ballustrade in front of the grandstand looks great.
What a way we could have introduced & all welcomed our 'new' SANFL team Norwood who will put so much into this zone & the juniors,
& played their U/18 team against the U/18 EP lads in a curtain raiser to the AFL game like they wanted to do.
But no the AFL prima donnas didnt want a curtain raiser so the game is being played at 6pm on Saturday at Mallee Park.
Gee whiz that oval all looks half dead, lets hope people do turn up to watch these exciting kids!
Whilst the AFL mob, stats folk etc are seated nicely in the fenced off 'no go zone shady grandstand' what about our over 80 elderly footy followers, why couldnt there be space made for them in the stand....there was no grandstand when AFL were last here in 2005 so where did stats guys etc sit then??
The U18 game was originally planned for Ravendale, until it was pointed out that cricket is still being played and also baseball who have the goals down at one end. If they pushed the game out to at least one week later they probably could have played it at least at Poole or Ravendale 2 if they had spoken to cricket, if the Mallees oval is as bad as you say it is.
Centenary is looking a picture I agree, A lot of work gone into the oval just for one match! It does make you wonder about precious some people are though. Being involved with getting the cricket pitch up to "AFL standards" some of the stories from the turf consultant have been quite humorous, the needs and wants of AFL teams for these types of matches as well as some stories where the coaches have quite publicly belittled local grounds and ground staff (volunteers) to their faces have been quite eye opening. I think we are lucky Ross Lyon isnt making it this trip
