The oval is in tip top condition & the new wall & ballustrade in front of the grandstand looks great.

What a way we could have introduced & all welcomed our 'new' SANFL team Norwood who will put so much into this zone & the juniors,
& played their U/18 team against the U/18 EP lads in a curtain raiser to the AFL game like they wanted to do.

But no the AFL prima donnas didnt want a curtain raiser so the game is being played at 6pm on Saturday at Mallee Park.
Gee whiz that oval all looks half dead, lets hope people do turn up to watch these exciting kids!

Whilst the AFL mob, stats folk etc are seated nicely in the fenced off 'no go zone shady grandstand' what about our over 80 elderly footy followers, why couldnt there be space made for them in the stand....there was no grandstand when AFL were last here in 2005 so where did stats guys etc sit then??

The U18 game was originally planned for Ravendale, until it was pointed out that cricket is still being played and also baseball who have the goals down at one end. If they pushed the game out to at least one week later they probably could have played it at least at Poole or Ravendale 2 if they had spoken to cricket, if the Mallees oval is as bad as you say it is.

Centenary is looking a picture I agree, A lot of work gone into the oval just for one match! It does make you wonder about precious some people are though. Being involved with getting the cricket pitch up to "AFL standards" some of the stories from the turf consultant have been quite humorous, the needs and wants of AFL teams for these types of matches as well as some stories where the coaches have quite publicly belittled local grounds and ground staff (volunteers) to their faces have been quite eye opening. I think we are lucky Ross Lyon isnt making it this trip

Passed all the cleg hammer tests quite easily yesterday. Since finding out about the game cricket has managed to be able to rest and rotate some wickets, different to what they normally would have done. That and the break it had in December from not playing on it makes it all good for football, probably a lot softer now then what we will play on it during the season believe it or not.
The concern cricket have now is being able to switch back to cricket in 8 days time and have a pitch up to standard, the grass is very thick and long not ideal just at the moment for a final.

Anyone know why Steven Benbolt was denied a clearance to Souths but allowed a clearance to Mallee Park?

Anyone have a look at Tumby v Souths trial match? Heard Tumby won by over 100 pts did Souths have a few out?

No scoreboard Old Son, but Tumby got up by about 25-30 points.
Probably 8 goals to 4 goals or similar. Tumby definitely played better for most parts.
Curtis brothers stood out, as did Jack Jacobs in parts, Nigel James didn't touch it much, but there was another big mobile unit that did some damage.
Another classy youngster with the first name Brodie(?) really ran a muck across half forward..

Souths were missing probably 5-6 top line senior players.
Brayden Traeger & Chris Minns were quality all night, and Wyatt Tiller surprised most i'd think with his attack on the footy & strength in marking contests. If he turns out to be Brett Watherston mk2 Bostons would be kicking themselves.

All in All a good chance for both sides to blow out the cobwebs.

Wyatt wouldn't be fit to tie up Brett's shoelaces......

WITH FOOTY ABOUT TO START THIS WEEK WHATS EVERYONE THINK WILL HAPPEN. A LOT OF PLAYERS COMING AND GOING. TASMANS WILL BE AROUND THE MARK AGAIN NOT AS STRONG AS THE LAST 3 YEARS THOU. WHO KNOWS WITH MALLEES BUT ARE ALWAYS THERE COME FINALS, BIT THE SAME WITH WAYBACKS, BOSTONS AND RANGERS PICKED UP A HEAP OF PLAYERS (WHO KNOWS HOW GOOD THEY ARE. MALLEE MILLER A HUGE IN FOR BOSTONS) THINK SOUTHS MAY STRUGGLE A BIT. COULD GET VERY INTERESTING TOWARDS END OF YEAR FOR A TOP 4 SPOT.
THIS WEEKS GAMES;
TASMANS TO BEAT MALLEES IN A CLOSE ONE
WAYBACKS TO BEAT BOSTONS
RANGERS TO BEAT SOUTHS.

Bostons improved a couple of positions last year & with Mallee M in expect them to improve another 2 this year which would mean a GF for them!
One can only hope for the club.

This weeks games...Tasmans easily over Mallees.......South will beat Rangers......Bostons too good for Waybacks at home
