Talk on the national game

Western Bulldogs 2015

Postby nuggety goodness » Tue Apr 14, 2015 3:45 pm

Well everyone else has a thread so why i can't I?

After losing 800+ games of experience before the season kicked off then Libba does his ACL during the NAB i was expecting a very long year. 2 rounds in and there is plenty of room for excitement at the kennel. New coach has invigorated this young group and has put a real energy into them and they are playing attractive, attacking footy.

There is plenty to like about the Doggies at the moment with our midfield in very much a developmental stage. 'The Bont' has already shown glimpses of brilliance and stepped up from his terrific debut year, plus it seems he has taken Libbas mantle as our tackling machine with 20 from 2 outings. Mitch Wallis was on the outer last year but has been given an opportunity and has taken it with both hands and is shining. Lin Jong has become a very solid player with the ability to go forward. Mitch Honeychurch is a gun and well deserved his rising star nomination. McRae and Stringer are now third year players and are extremely exciting.
Our backline doesn't get much attention but they are settling nicely. With Bob Murphy, Dale Morris and Matty Boyd down there we have plenty of experience to calm the nerves of some of the younger lads plus some decent ball movement out of there. Jason Johanisen and Michael Talia are tracking nicely with Jordan Roughead growing in experience and skill.
Jarrad Grant has done something finally and seems to be contributing much more than he ever has.
every line seems to be growing and getting better which has me excited for what the coming years may bring.
I know that it is only round 2 and we have much sterner opposition coming with Hawthorn and Adelaide in the next two but we arent anywhere near as bad as i thought we were going to be.
Once Tom Boyd starts to fulfill his enormous potential it will open the next premiership window for the dogs. Look out 2017 and onwards!

Wouldn't begrudge the dishlickers any success. Hope they have a great year. Can't see them cracking the top 8 just yet but would love to be wrong. Of all the Victorian teams they are the ones who shit me the least.

I lost a good mate earlier this year who was a long suffering Bulldogs and South Sydney fan.

The Rabbits made him happy last year, any success the Bulldougs have will be fine by me.

RIP Dougmore.

Dunno why this has been so quiet. These doggies are on the cusp of finals when many, including myself, had us penned in for a bottom 4 finish.

Have gone way above expectations and finals would be a bonus. I think we will probably finish 6-8 and face north, crows, richmond or geelong. Every chance we win that but if not still a massice achievement for Luke Beveridge, Bob Murphy and the pups.

So much to be excited about and looks like aome successful years arent too far away.

As if everyone hasn't jumped on by now!!!

Although richmond's wagon would be well and truly full...

So many good stories from the doggies. How good has Easton Wood been! Murphy and Boyd off HB have been revelations. The midfield depth despite losing 3 of our premier mids. Stringer is a superstar!

I think big Minno will be gone in the off season, should be able to get something decent at trade for him.

Sorry but although big Will has had arguably his best season, I don't think anyone else would be lining up for him.
Easton Wood would have to be pushing AA selection.

Minno has been hit and miss this year, hence him being in and out of the side. I reckon he was AA only a couple years ago...

Now Beveridge has played Cordy and lately Campbell (who i rate as a Ruck/forward) with Redpath or T Boyd or Roughead pinch hitting so i think he's done.

Geelong need a ruckman, Carlton need another WB reject. Surely we could get a second rounder at least.

He'd be ruckman #3 at best wherever he went, I coudn't see Carlton going down that path, they'll no doubt off-load Warnock and try to blood a young fella, hopefully they can get a full season out of Kruezer.
Geelong are going down the youth trail aswell and it seems to be paying off, I'm not sure that anyone else would be keen on a 30+ year old standby ruckman.

When Libba went down I was expecting a bottom 4 finish, they've definitely done a great job this year. Play a great style of footy. Just hoping they have an off week this week!

Have been more consistent than Port this year and I expect the Dogs to win. They may have just caught Port on the cusp of a last ditch finals push though. I'd expect this one to be the closest line of the weekend without knowing the other games. Should be a good game to watch.

I,ll stand by what I wrote in April. If they make the finals I will be hoping they win and adopting a Dog for September.

This week shapes as an interesting one for us. Port have won 3 of their last 6 but the biggest margin was Sydney by 10. Since the loss to Carlton it seems like there's been a decent response.

I'm not overly confident but i havent been for a few weeks, just waiting for a slump from the young fellas to be honest but it hasnt come. I really hope its not this week!

Etihad suits us as long as we can get our run from behind going, we generate so much from half back and our mids spread real well. Gotta have big Jack Redpath or Tom Boyd clunking a few but if they dont Stringer, Crameri and Dickson can put you to the sword along with our glut of mids kicking goals.

If we can shut down Grays influence at the stoppage and stop Wingard from kicking more than 2 i reckon we're well on our way.

Made us look average today.

Playing a good brand of footy and one that's good to watch.

Not sure how far you can go but I will be all about the Dishlickers this September.

Up to fourth now with the swans losing...

Should beat the Dees next week but then have West Coast at Subi and then North at Etihad before Brisbane at the Gabba.

Should win 2, potential to beat North and ive pencilled in a loss to WC.

I dont think we'll hold down 4th but ahould get a home final first up from here which is about 10 spots up the ladder than my preseason prediction.

Great season with a great future ahead! Get on the doggies!
