nathan lyon not up to it?

will probably be australia's greatest ever off spinner by the end of the series (needs 10 more wickets). is also leading the wickets for the series and has more than double mitch johnson.

Australia can consistently win without Nathan Lyon wicket contributions
Harris and Johnson are the keys

Lyon bowled Australia to victory in Adelaide in a rare match winning performance by an off spinner in Australia
He deserves his spot in the team, but he is not in the BIG4
Nathan has had chances to win other tests for Australia but didnt

Currently
Australia can prob win without Lyon contributions
Australia without MJ or Rhino contributions would struggle[despite the 2nd test]

This post will be proved to be very wrong by the end of the Boxing Day test. Yes you have listed the 4 most important players but someone else will step up and make the difference. Lyono is in career best form, Buck was great last test and Haddin was nearly player of the series last summer.

Wristy
What did the AU 6-128 mean in the 2nd dig at the Gabba ?
The answer is find ways to get Warner and East Coast Smith out , and the batting is very suspect

Someone apart from the BIG4 might step up occasionally in any match [Lyon Adelaide is an example]
But the BIG4 are doing it more often than any others

Wato to ton up in Melbourne.... Or make 34 with 8 boundaries and get caught slashing outside off.

I think the small totals may have cost us a couple of wickets in the second dig. I will admit without Pup there does look like there is a degree of fragility to the middle order.

I think we will win but it will take a team effort with significant contributions from those outside the big 4. Smudger and Warner simply can't make a ton every test.

interesting article about watto. Only Rod marsh and Ian Healy have made more test runs at a lower average...

Probably always an allrounder masquerading as a batsman, could have been an all time great if we batted him at 6 the whole time (and didnt get injured obv)

Just my opinion but I think our side for the 3rd test is a stronger and better balanced team than that selected in the second.

Rhino the No.3 ranked bowler in the world in for Starcy is a no brainer
A genuine batsmen albeit a debutant in for an all-rounder when we have another of similar ilk seems like a positive move also.

Australia by 108 runs.
Man of the match - Davey Warner
India to complain about the MCG crowd and their hotel bedding

I disagree. I think he was always a top order batsman but people wanted desperately for him to be an all rounder. His body broke down constantly while people tried to make him a fast bowler when his best bowling at top pace was average. Then of course, when we think of all rounders we want them to be big hitting and bat 6. I don't think big hitting, as much as he can hit a big ball, is the way he goes about it best in the longer forms of the game. If you exclude test cricket, he has a first class average of 49 (M. Clarke 44 for an interesting stat) which is certainly not the number of a guy who can't bat.

Well first class averages mean little when you have played 50 tests and still average only 35 or whatever it is.

I think the problem is he gets found out against quality bowling, bowl people who can duck it in and also good spin bowling.

When Watto was playing at his best as a Test batsman he played with aggression
That Watto averaged close to 50 and was then opening the batting
That put pressure on the bowlers

These days he is trying too hard to play like a technically correct test batsman
Its not working
That puts pressure on himself

Someone needs to clear his mind
I would like to think Boof is the man to get Watto going , but it aint happening , yet

Basically Watto needs a new mindset
Perhaps the timing of the blow he received from James Pattinson may actually end up helping him with the bat !
Cant do much worse !
