I was always a fan of Garry McIntosh and Micheal Aish From Norwood.
Micheal Redden was one of the best i got to watch ruck.
The Gowan twin are two of the best players i have seen recently as much as i hate seeing them in the doggies colours.

Well put BB, you'd be hard pressed to find a braver bloke on the field.
I was of the opinion that most blues supporters were quite happy with the Atkinson/Sutherland swap, until he did a knee at Unley & the Blues patrons were fist pumping & high fiving each other.

Would be pretty dissapointed with any supporter who did that ( I guess there is some in every crowd ) i was there that day every one around us actually clapped him off - he was with us in a terrible era and still gave it his all and watched him do it even with NA.

I used to admire Davies, P Carey and M Aish. Ginever's leadership was outstanding and Macca bled red & blue. It's a bit harder with todays crop as you don't get to see as much of the other teams as you used to. I'll admire any player from the opposition when they pull on a state guernsey though!

Davies had the best disguised push in the back I've ever seen. (either that or the umps were blind)

I used to love watching Redden/Carey ruck contests, I think Redden might have won more than lost though.

I would say that in the end it was about 50/50 between Carey and Redden. If Mick was able to jump (mainly at the centre bounces) he generally got over Carey but Super was the master of the ball up and throw in in general play - almost immovable due to his size and his ability to position himself. Both Champions on and off the field.

Have to agree. The Redden/Parsons combination was formidable. Super was the only bloke who could hold his own against them.

My favourite opposition player of all time was Malcolm Blight, for his character and ability to make things happen through sheer application of will. Being a Woodville man also helps as it was hard to have any gripes with anything about Woodville provided you didn't barrack for them yourself.
The player I most wish played his career at Sturt would be John Platten. During the early to mid-eighties having his pace, disposal and ball getting skills in the open spaces and around the packs would have got us at least one extra premiership.
Stephen Kernahan: Versatile, I would have had him at center half-forward in the Double Blue.
Laurence Schache: (Strewth, I have forgotten how to spell his name) Speaking of center half-forwards, Sturt should never have let this one go.
Darren Jarman: The man was a freak and seemed to not understand the meaning of pressure. Just about any side that had him playing in it would be in with a chance of winning the flag.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

I find it interesting that so many people rate the Gowans lads as their fav players from other clubs (including myself).
Certainly dispels the myths some Centrals fans had thinking everyone hated them.

I think its a normal reaction to hate the opposition players who are doing you the most damage. I remember Russell Ebert used to give me the shits.

Fair Dinkum?? Haven't heard that one before. Just think, we could have snaffled them both at Norwood ha ha.

I just loved the way Ray Hayes played the game. An average player doing his upmost for the team..! Never turned his back on anything team orientated....! Well done Raymond, and thank's for the memories....!

Loved the way Kevin Harris went about his footy.

Very ugly little man.

But a very good little footballer.

With the Jumbo Prince & Bagshaw playing in the late 70's early 80's the Dogs would be into double figures for flags now..

Throw in the "Salisbury" lads of Hodges, Wanganeen & Carter (stolen via the change in recruiting zones) and we would have a few more.

But seriously Max Parker was always a player I respected and Ron Hateley used to cane us every time he ran out against us.
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

THEN:Neville Roberts in his prime was pound for pound a magician up forward.
Greg Phillips ,hard ,fair ,skilled for a big man and was the backbone of port

and NOW:hate to say it but again those two bloody ball magnet twins at the dogs are worth their weight in gold.

Great players are Chad and Kane (the next captain when Tredders stands down in 5-6 years.)

Port Adelaide through and through.

This seems to be a consistent attitude from Port supporters - ignorance of the opposition. Don't know why you haven't got a 100% win record.
