Yes just like Ron Barassi, Ken Eustice, Peter Woite, Greg Williams, David Rhys-Jones, Neil Craig, Warwick Capper, Doug Barwick and Tony Lockett. Oh hang on, they weren't Gen Y though were they :)

Not to mention Doug Wade, Stan Alves, John Rantall, Barry Davis, Carl Ditterich, Bob Shearman, Alastair Lynch, Steven Sims, Clayton Lamb, Milan Faletic, Frank Stemper, Russell Morris and Gary Dempsey.

Now to hear Travis Cloke will line up for the suns next year! Still not contracted at the pies and I think he may leave!

The Gold Coast Football Club has 8045 fans on Facebook.

I would take reasonable odds that their Facebook page has a higher number of fans, than they get paying members.

All I am saying mate is that they are not going to be very well supported, and unless they become a dominant force, and you get all the AFL bandwaggoners following them, then they are going to be a very very unsuccessful franchise.

I will have a passing interest in GC only because someone from my home town and I played a bit of junior sport with/against him is on their list..........

very unlikely to take out membership with the club but I might attend their Adelaide based games and hell even barrack for them vs Port Adelaide......

They already have 10,000+ paid members.

I'll barrack for them as well.

Against The Power and Collingwood, and I will pray for a draw, and plenty of reports, when they play GWS.

My brother has just moved to the Goldy and although he is a Pies supporter he is going to get a membership and attend their matches. You might find a lot of expats from the tradditional football states will see this as an opportunity to regularly attend AFL matches again, many will convert totally....

Sorry dont think it will work. They are a strange mob those banana benders. Brisbane were winning flag after flag and still not selling out every week now they are struggling it looks like a power home game up there :D
I hope it does work but when they only get 8000 per week to games how long is the AFL going to prop them up for? They need to play finals asap otherwise there could be trouble brewing

Brisbane Lions average home attendance in 2010 was 29,908. That's not bloody bad at all considering how they played this year.

The AFL only care what GC can provide them in tv broadcasting rights revenue, they're probably expecting, and prepared to accept, very low crowds, at least in early years. West Sydney I think will cause more problems for the AFL, they could become a train wreck.

AFL get x million dollars for 8 games a weekend, the AFL will now get (potentially) x+12.5% (for 9 games a weekend)- I don't think crowd size is on the agenda...

The Fremantle page has about 29000. I doubt that Facebook groups are indicative of the actual membership numbers. Although if GC get 8000 season passes sold in their first year they should be happy going into what was RL territory.
It's all the SANFL's fault.
