3D printing isn't really that new though...been around since at least 2003

You are right - I do recall seeing a TV doco about it but couldn't recall when.
It looks like they may have improved the hardening though.

Yes, not the same as it used to be. Wonder how many of these "printers" will be popping up in china. No stopping the cheap knock offs now.

Yeh I'd seen them on science/tech documentries before and occasionally you'll see one used on those 'How do they do that?', 'How it's made', 'Mythbuster' type shows no doubt in part because it looks so impressive. There's no denying it certainly has the wow factor.

Surely u just buy 1 printer, scan it and print another...

then scan those 2 and print more off... so on and so forth ;)

I like the way you think.

Port could use one to make spectators, and get rid of those tarps. It would be creepy sitting amongst the "replicas", but it would look good on tv. ;)
