Why? Surely he is at that stage where he's only really useful to a team on the verge of a championship. The clippers are improving but not so much to be in the top bracket yet.

And hasnt the decision of the Knicks to not match the Rockets offer been so polarising.
I dont think Id want my team spending $25mil over three years on such an unproven player (take out his streak and not much else left)

I'd be mightily surprised if Howard went to the Lakers. He'd be taking a significant pay cut, surely. If he does go there then what happens to their current playing style? Nash and Howard would be a contending duo on their own which would leave little time for Kobe to have the ball in his hands. Would he become little more than a jump shooter?

I think the whole Lin situation has played out well for all parties. Knicks can't spend that much money on an unproven guy, Lin can't turn down such a superb deal and the Rockets have taken a punt that his run wasn't a one off but a pattern of a 10 year career. If they are right, he might be a franchise player. Well played by all 3 parties IMHO.

I'm not right up with the latest but wasn't the big sticking point in the Lakers hopes of getting Howard that Bynum if traded to the Magic was refusing to sign a contract extension with them?

Apparently Howard still has said that he will only sign an extension if the Magic trade him to the Nets. The Lakers are talking to Orlando but sounds like Howard hasn't given any indication he's considering that option. Orlando probably will try to talk Howard into the LA deal as Bynum is about as good a trade as they'll get for Howard right now.

Grant Hill agrees to join the Clippers! This is one I didn't see coming until johno6's comment earlier. It's a huge shot in the arm of the Clippers that a guy like Hill, who is in that phase of his career where he is probably looking to win a championship in the next couple of years. I presume he could have had his pick of the Lakers, OKC, Miami and anyone else he was happy to join. I guess it depends on whether the offers were similar in terms of money but still, full credit to LAC here. I doubt he'll offer much more than some great leadership and solid defense for 12-15 minutes off the bench, but that was going to be the same no matter where he went.

Funny how this feels like a great opportunity for the leading teams to pick up some quality but Howard aside there aren't any franchise changing decisions this year. The rich get a little richer, the poor go nowhere and Brooklyn might displace Orlando as a power in the East seems to be the only change. I even get the feeling nobody expects the top rookies to be +35 win type players this season.

anyone else feel like howard is acting like a spoilt brat,
he is an absolute gun, but he needs to sort his shit out
he has virtually said no to an extension if he went to rockets or lakers, so why the hell are they still trying to get him
im assuming they think once he is there they can talk him into stayin, its a big risk
im pretty sure lakers have said they wont take him unless he agrees he will extend before he joins.

i say keep bynum and avoid the risk
and stop talkin about trading bynum or he will leave

Is there anything stopping Howard just walking to the Nets? I thought he was an unrestricted free agent otherwise Orlando wouldn't be talking trade. Sounds to me despite already fulfilling his obligations to the Magic he wants to give them something in return for himself.

Howard had an option for 1 more year which he picked up late last season so will be an unrestricted free-agent at the end of the 2012/13 season.
