I really need to consider playing more often. Thoroughly enjoyed our cricket club's golf day yesterday at rather boggy Stirling Golf Club. Really surprised they let us on and drive carts on the course.

Also played all 18 holes of the Nullarbor Links on our recent trip west.

Getting itchy feet to get out get my handicap back and get out as much as can.

Back to earth second up on Sunday down at Willunga. Hit it atrociously on the front 9 for a 54. Lost 3 balls, chipped out of trees on 4 of the holes, chunked a wedge into the water on both the 2nd and 4th.

Came home in 41 but the damage was done. Skies opened up on the last just to rub it in.

Next one at Lady Bay so hoping to have the back 9 form follow.

That's why I joined Flaggy, it will force me to get out and utilise the membership... plus I'm eyeing off a room at the retirement village

Whats the Flaggy deal MT? Going again in the sevens comp at the Vines starting in October, by this time next year my youngest will have his P's so I reckon that might be the trigger to join somewhere fulltime as Ill finally have the time to play regularly.

Greens just been cored I believe?

Mate of mine hit his tee shot to 2cm from the cup on the 16th 2 weeks back, apparently the hole in one prize was up to $5,800

They were cored on the 5th & 6th. They have played well the 2 Saturdays since then. Slower than usual though

Never actually played The Vines but our new green keeper is from there, the advise he has given me is;

- Everything rolls towards the front gate no matter what it looks like
- Sand is dense as f@#k, must really really commit and hit hard (If were in a bunker i'll be filthy, its ambrose)
- Super quick greens and
- It's a really unforgiving course!

anything i've missed?

Unforgiving, not sure it's that bad. greens are quick, but manageable.

On the 4th hole make sure you get it on the tier the flag is.
You don't wanna be coming down the slope.
The 5th approaching green keep it left, between flag and the rubbish as it will bounce and roll on towards the green.
There's a few holes where you can really let fly with the driver.
On the 13th par 5, stay out to the right on approach shot as it feeds back to the left of the green.
Par 3 14th - watch out for the power lines!
15th - if you can play a nice power fade around the corner you can end up in a nice spot. Alternatively you can try and blast through the trees and roll out nicely, it's a bit of lottery play but it suits my general draw shape.
16th. A good drive and you can leave yourself a short 60mish chip. But if you end up on fairway from anywhere from 130m, you can pull out the hybrid/putter/7i and hit a little runner. You just have to aim at the stobie pole, get the pace right and it will run up nicely onto the green and next to the flag if it's at the front. Probably my fav shot on the course lol

You will enjoy the walk.

Yeah MT has covered it well, course has held up very well considering the wet winter, one thing that is unique there is that the greens are faster in winter than summer and the greens are very tricky, the 8th is an optical illusion, looks like it slopes towards the 6th green but goes the other way.

On the 2nd take a long iron/hybrid off the tee and get it on top of the mound, hit a good driver and you will roll through to the trees

4th is a brutal hole and really tough to putt no matter where the pin is, I think its the toughest hole on the course but its not rated that way

7th is the hardest driving hole on the course, everything goes into the right tree line

Go down the left hand side with your drive on the 9th, a huge tree blocks your 2nd if you are on the right hand side of the fairway

MT has all the clues on the back 9

I think the 4th is Index 1. Or it used to be.
On the 2nd, surely you just try to drive over the water??? Me I just play to the 150m marker..
