Went past Baron as well. Did you live in the mine? There is no resemblance of a town there at all!

They will all enhance the trip when done but FFS do 1 stretch at a time.

Took a detour via the Barron in about 2017 I think due to a road accident. From memory evidence of the streets are still there but bitumen is ripped up/ covered in dirt mounds to stop the hoons of Whyalla doing burnouts!

Yep. Best bet is to leave town via the road that goes to the airport/detention centre/El Alamein. You pop out on the regular highway with only a few kms of road works.

There was until about 1999.

School closed 1991, Club 1997 (IIRC) Google maps shows where the roads were, Can still see where the school oval was, the track in the scrub where we used to walk to school and where the tennis courts were

A good place to spend your formative years

*sigh*

But that just means more time sinking grog and nibbling exotic treats in the Qantas club. (or the air NZ substitute)

Drove 45 seconds to polling both...…lined up for 15 seconds....voting took another 30 seconds, grabbed the free snag on offer on the way out.

That's not my issue,
my issue is forcing thousands of people to make a HUGE decision but they don't know nor care how to vote/why they're voting.
To top it off, the "side" that got the most votes lost!
Very confusing!

Google "two party preferred voting system". You might not have voted for them on your primary, but you voted for them on your preferences.

The same people who would protest in the streets against a government they would not have voted for regardless of who got in

You don't have to cast a vote if you don't want to, get your name checked off and leave.

Yes! How simple!
But the thousands of 18 year olds that are voting for the first time have no idea what you are talking about.
It's not explained to them, especially by their parents, because most of them have no idea.
Example, my step daughter had no idea how to vote/who to vote for, Albo rocks up at her school on Friday with the TV entourage, says nice things on air about her so she votes for Labor.
I think that, leading up to an election, it should be explained to kids at school how it works, after all, it's compulsory so it must be important!

ALP are partially to blame for the high independent vote, the last week they were advocating for voters who didn’t want to vote for either main party to vote but put Liberal last on the vote card knowing that many preferences would end up with the ALP. It was a smart move.

Most 18 year olds I've met have a lot better idea than most over 60 year olds!

Albo got less primary vote than Shorten did!

Certainly an interesting time, Ill give Albo a chance, I have some fears though, particularly around small business and economy.

My brother worked for him in Canberra for 6 years, and despite being a Labor person, doesn't rate him.

So effectively Richo's strategy from the 1990 campaign when the primary vote for both parties barely reached 80%.

1993 was the last high water mark for the primary vote for the ALP/Coalition when it was a roughly 89% (clear alternative GST or no GST). It was still above 85% in 1996.

Been a steady decline since then
