One of the problems we've had particularly in SA and it was known 10 years ago was the age of our mental health workforce (the average of MH Nurses in the metropolitan area back then was 53)

it was similar nation wide.

For the last 10 years were have been actively recruiting from overseas (mostly the UK - ever wondered why Hallett Cove and Flagstaff Hill is the little Britain of the South).

Now with Migration at basically zero we haven't been able replace the "retiring" workforce hence one of our critical workforce shortages at the moment is nursing staff. A driver for the for the containment model that isn't well known.

in many ways beds arent our biggest issue its staff as we have been diverting staff to run screening clinics, give vaccinations do contact tracing, activities that required minimal staff 18 months ago.

Talking with my colleagues in Adelaide they are actually getting creative and using 3rd year Nursing students to support the existing registered clinical workforce.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Why don't those SA Pathology places that are scattered everywhere do the jab? Seems logical

More and more pharmacies are doing the jab so the reliance’s on nurses now will diminish anyway.

It’s time to stop tip toeing about and move forward.

Yes people will whinge if the levy goes up but I’d be more than happy to pay it to get beds and services available going forward.

So they quadruple the levy next week (and in the process sign their political death warrant and you reckon the incoming will keep to that policy? ), when do you think those beds come on line?

So you are saying this really is about politics and nothing else here?

No, but to think upping the Medicare levy one week makes hospital beds appear the next week is somewhat naive, isn't it?

In 18 months you can't train doctors, nurses, buy equipment, make bed spaces, develop all the infrastructure ( food, linen etc ) to the point where hundreds of beds come on line.

Our system is good, but far from perfect, but to realistically increase health capacity takes years and billions.

I said that?

If every Australian paid $100 that's only enough to build 1 hospital ( Fiona Stanley in Perth, nRAH here ) and that takes around 4 years from design to completion.

TQEH footprint couldn't be expanded, Lyell Mc was already tendered and a new ED getting built around 8 years after the last development, Flinders ED was already out to tender, this shit doesn't happen over night and in health terms 18 months is a mere blink of the eye.

Look at the testing clinics they've created, the contact tracing teams and infrastructure, so, so much has been done to help control this pandemic but to simply go "Here's more money make more beds" is so short sighted.

No I’m not saying they can build it overnight but give us a plan at least.
A vision.
Some **** hope at least!

If they started this plan 12-18 months ago we would have that vision at least and know what the future may look like.
We are no better off than we were 18 months ago.

I think the government have done an ok job holding the fort but they could have done a lot more here as well.

Edit: Jimmy beat me too it

If they have severe underlying issues prior to contracting covid that could be the case.
I'd be really concerned if they were all healthy middle aged people before they contracted it.

The Apache is still around

I did say in a post some time back that this September cases will go up and there will be more deaths just like in any Flu season sometimes the deaths are in the hundreds and sometimes in the thousands depending on the virulency of the Flu strain.

The sad thing about it all is the C.O.C is still alive and doing very well the Cult Of Covid.

Any way i am still heartened by one stat 99% plus survival rate if you get Delta in Australia pretty good odds hey.

Any way to finish off hows this for logic.

CNN reporter interviewing an Amish elder, the interview went like this; CNN reporter; we've noticed that the Covid virus doesn't affect the Amish colonies the same as the rest of the world ! Can you explain this phenomenon ? We don't have televisions.

Bang Bang Baa Baa Baa
SANFL 2000 - 2011 Central District 12 consecutive Grand Final appearances and 9 Premierships.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOFFFFFFFFFF.

Hit em hard let them get up and hit em again.

NSWs presses are just unbelievable, they'll contradict themselves from day to day and it's like business as usual.

Although they'll be the first to see how it goes being vaccinated at 80% and opening up.

WA seem to be attempting to like the Amesh in being secluded from everyone else.

Bird in hand winery saying that all staff and visitors will be required to be vaccinated to go there.

Not sure that's legal.

Not sure that's a good idea, I mean it's a nice place and all but it's going to lose business. Id your choosing to make this type of decision then you need to be able to stand on your own feet. No handouts.
