Lennies ...saw some awesome live music there.

The Grand at The Bay

Old Queens Arms ...for the $20 stamp for all the beer, wine, spirits you could drink!!!

Then of course my personal fav.........Stix Pool Hall for the nightclub POP! (with Big DJ Ian spinning the decks) .....used to love making a request to his reply as always "We already played it!!!" ;)

The Norwood

...and of course Joppies!!!!! (I would say at the start of the night I am not going but always somehow ended up there!!)
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!

Ahh, the ol' 20 buck chuck, remember bumping into Goody and a few of the Crows boys there just after the 97 GF, I remember they couldn't find Kane Johnson for ages - turns out he'd fallen asleep in the toilets.

Yes, the Twenty Buck Chuck was great at the QA! Place looks a lot more respectible these days. apparently you can buy TWO DRINKS and get some change from a $20! Albeit.. silver.

Used to love going to Cartoons - seeing cover bands and the like - before it burnt down.
I love 'Food and Stuff'. It's where I buy all of my food. And most of my stuff.

Really?

Cartoons was one of those places you would strictly only go to on a KRYSTAL KOACH bus tour - and hide in a corner until it was time to leave

I came to the conclusion back in the late 80's early 90's that there was an "anti nerd law" at most nightclubs. It didn't matter what I wore I always seemed to get refused entry as "not suitably dressed". Even got refused entry to Rio's. Some exceptions to "Rob's Law of nightclub refusal":

The Berkeley (I worked across the road at Timezone at the time. Our late night watering hole)
McMahons Tonsley (One time only and almost got killed by security)
Joplins (Once or twice. Never alone or the above law applied)
Club Colloseum at Collonaides (Played in a contest on Sonic the Hedgehog. Won a Megadrive by beating the game live on the video wall)
Shennanigans was my local pub for 10 years. Did the 100 pint club and made it onto the Hall of Fame board as well. Permanent happy hour for me. I still miss that place. It died for good when the bald dwarf took over and snorted it into oblivion.

Never went to Lennies which will always be a thing I regret.

Cheers

Rob

Usual weekend was Morphy on a Friday (Morphett Vale Arms, now the Emu Hotel) which was my favourite nightclub despite not coming from down south and Lennies on a Saturday. Sometimes Lennies was thrown in on a Thursday and Sunday too (when you had to grab food then dump it in a bin due to licensing laws).
Used to go to the Venue and Mansions in town quite a bit, bit of Jules, bit of Berkley, tried the Kelly Room out at the Clovercrest once, McMahons at Salisbury was a lot better than its replica at Tonsley. Also went to Sams/Redlegs a couple of times.
Morphy was great as they'd ALWAYS play 3 ACDC songs and 3 Angels songs back to back at one stage of the night when us and the other hoons would invade the dance floor.
Even got into the Bay Disco just before it closed down even though I was underage and had one of the nights of my life.
Saw a heap of bands at Lennies (The Sharp, Hoodoo Gurus, etc) but most band nights were spent at Bridgeway and Old Lion, even saw James Reyne at Club Colloseum once.
If Gadj reads this he'll also remember some great times we had at the beautiful old pub that was where that Credit Union now is on the corner of Flinders Street and Gawler Place, bloody name eludes me but how that place was allowed to be demolished with heritage acts, etc is beyond me, I remember a Flaming Sambucca night when we filled up two tables full of empty glasses and we were doing the wave around the table with a one armed guy involved!
Ahh good times.
