Getting letters addressed to Master

Buying footy boots as a 10 or 12 year old and seeing the size 11, 12, 13's and thinking what sort of a violent game men's senior footy must be, stomping on each other with these huge clodhoppers.

Yes, yes & yes!

The buttery cafe was in Johnnies im pretty sure as was the clunky lifts

Not really nearing 50 but after getting back into playing aussie rules this year I really have missed the atmosphere that surrounded the football park oval. Yeah inside the stadium it could be a bit sterile but loved the atmosphere in the concourses around the ground, that smell of filthy oil cooking the hot chips. The BBQ's on mass going on Max Basheer reserve, you then had West Lakes car park and all the looks of disgust from toffee shoppers who couldn't deal with the feral supporters from Elizabeth and sighed at another footy day.

When there were two games on the noise that came from the inside game when you were outside having a few drinks. you could start to pick which team kicked the goal based on the level and type of noise that came. Each team used to have this unique sound.

Adelaide Oval has been a boost to the state but I just don't feel like the surrounding atmosphere has captured that tribalism football brings as well as footy park did.

Happily accept others will feel different but footy parks holds a fair bit of nostalgia for me, in particular from an SANFL point of view.

Caught up with a mate last week for a few quiet ones and amongst the shit we talked I mentioned the Hot Dogs HJ’s used to sell when we were kids (late 70’s, early 80’s) .. He swore black and blue such a menu option never existed there. Anyone else remember them?

Yeah, you are right Redden, it was Johnnies, my mistake.

Call me what you like, I used to love it, the food courts in major shopping centres these days are horrid, noisy places

Yes. Certainly up to the early '80s. They were simple affairs ("meat", bun, sauce) and they were not terribly long. They were inexpensive. I liked 'em.

I had managed to avoid the CBD for a while but got two surprises today:

1) Free parking
2) Got served by a young lady with a goatee

Where was the free parking? (I don't care where the goatee was)

Wilson's Park on Hindley St. I was surprised as I'd walked to Rundle Mall, shopped at Rebel and Harvey Norman before heading back to the car. Thought any minimum time would have elapsed, expected to pay a few dollars.

You remember Barnesy as vodka swilling mullet coiffured, Japanese headband wearing, hell raising, lead vocalist of Australia’s foremost rock band, compared to a flower growing pavlova baking, children’s book author, internet star grandfather….
