Cars you have owned

Postby MUNGO JERRY » Mon Nov 07, 2005 7:33 pm

For those who are interested here is a list of cars that I have owned since I got my license way back in '85. Could be interesting if there's other car 'nuts' out there.
1973 LJ 2 door torana - my first car
1973 LJ GTR XU1 torana - the first love of my life
1968 HB torana - a piece of crap
1968 HR Holden - 4 speed, twin carbs, disc brakes..wotta gun machine!
1979 VB commodore - reliable workhorse
1986 VL Calais - a tired piece of crap
1991 VN SS Commodore - a great car but it was an auto
1989 VN SS Commodore - still have this one
1980 WB ute- my current work vehicle
1972 toyota celica - worse car I ever owned, even the head lights were super glued in....sold it to a young dude in the dark for 500 bucks and he reckoned it was his dream car!...bloody idiot!

Spent a shitload of cash on my toranas in my early years but those days are long gone. Owned my XU1 for 12 years and literally broke down in tears when I finally sold it.
Very much a commodore person these days, love the v8.
Too fast to live, too young to die.

1975 Gemini (lime green)
1974 XB Falcon Panel Van (got it from my old man as he lost his licence, great for drive ins!)
1980 XD Falcon (X Pack) Yellow with orange stripe
1996 EF Falcon Station Wagaon

Also drove Mrs Wedgie's 84 Laser occasionally, we had that from about 1991 - recently.

A bees tit away from buying a Brand New BA Falcon XR6 recently but didn't have the colour we wanted and mainly had autos left (I want a manual).
Luckily for me Falcons last a long time so I don't have to purchase cars too often.

Never buy new, the more they cost, the bigger the loss in value, get something a couple of years old, still under waranty, unless you want to chuck away thousands.

Haven't had a car for seven years. Fastest way to recover from a devorse. Still drive the work car and small truck. It's been hard but in reality the best thing I have done. Saved thousands and built my life up to be better than ever...! Hate public transport. Hate not having a car. Lucky to live in walking distance of my employment. Price of fuel scares me and makes me see I done the right thing..! Would't be in the position I am today if I purchased a car earlier...! No regrets..!
Smile :)

Snap

.....and bloody good value for money as a second hand car, didn't hold their value from new, so you get a lot more for your money than you would from most other 2nd hand cars.

Ian, I bought mine from the SA Government auctions, $18K, 40K on the clock and 15months warranty remaining from the orig. 3 years. Also came with a towbar and cargo barrier. The Magna is outstanding value as a second hand car, if you're planning to keep it 5 years as I was, resale is not really an issue. You are so right about buying new, wait 12-18 months and save big bucks
