Are imploding topics imploding?

Postby topsywaldron » Wed Jun 18, 2008 9:19 pm

Why was the North imploding topic locked?

I'll just go on the record as saying that this kind of insane lock down of legitimate discussion will be the death of this forum. There was nothing litigious or defamatory about the thread and, unless I'm very much mistaken, North are still part of the competition this forum is devoted to.

Surely if a topic has been 'done to death' people will stop posting on it or looking on it and it'll disappear into the hinterlands of page 2. Locking it is just plain dumb and symptomatic of a website that takes itself way too seriously.

I can assure you it had nothing to do with North, in fact I was keen for it to stay open probably for the wrong reasons (ie not giving the tools who think this is a pro North site any more ammo).
Join up on the Roost if you're keen to discuss the issue further though Topsy, still a bit of talk on there about it.

There's defiantely not too many mods, most of us are still flat out keeping tracks with topics on every forum on this site, its soo damn busy and popular that we require a lot of mods. This site still takes up a huge amount of my time and Im thankful for each and every mod that helps me out and also helps make this site as popular as it is. Its also good to have mods from all over the world (we have 3 or 4 from overseas) so the site can be monitored most hours of the days, one of the reasons we haven't had any "invasions" like a lot of other bit forums cop every now and then.

That thread had become old news and, by the end, was nothing more than various North supporters arguing about what who shouldn't or shouldn't be posting what ........ completely pointless club-specific banter that belongs on the Roost, not on a general SANFL site. IMO

Imploding topics are just great reading.

I even started one myself about my own team but it seemed to die after we won

I think every club should implode so it can have a renaissance :?

A discussion about a SANFL club on a SANFL forum?

Outrageous.

I had my new thread deleted because apparently there is a rule which says that once a thread has been locked you cannot start one on the same topic!

Topsy, if a thread ends up being mostly posted on by one club's supporters surely that means it belongs on that club's own forum. ie, no-one else seems to care - expect for the supporters of that club .

Otherwise why do the clubs have their own forums? Should everyone should just rabbit on about their own clubs on SAFooty?

Either go to the Roost as Wedgie suggested or, if you have some NEW news to contribute, start a thread! :D

Last post from me on this matter.

In the last three pages of the now locked thread there are nineteen posts from supporters of clubs other than North.

I'm with Topsy on this one.

Firstly, what gives you the right Hondo to tell other users of this forum whether they should be posting here or on a club site.

Secondly, I often read interesting stuff and have nothing to add - my point is that there are many more viewers than posters.

Thirdly, Dutchy if we all took your advice there would be no forum.

I detest censorship and the moderators would be well advised to exercise their powers with caution. The only deletions should be those that would put this site at risk of being sued or some other significant negative action.

This is a forum for debate which means that there will be disagreement and irrelevant as well as irreverant postings. Thats life

Seems that's only applicable when it suits yeah?

Geez some people make a mountain out of a molehill, I shudder to think where people channeled their whinging energies before the days of free forums and fansites.
