I thought that while she was probably still too young to appreciate it properly, she might at least get some sort of visual stimulation out of it. Sitting munching chips in the cafe afterwards, having spent the previous hour chasing her through dinosaur bones, egyptian mummies, aboriginal art and rock crystals, I asked her which bit she liked the most. Without hesitation she replied:

"the lifts".

kids today, I tell ya....

You were not expecting her to say the pelicans exhibit surely Chuck?

haha, the mention of pelicans reminded me when I took my son to the zoo last year and there was a baby pelican. I'd never seen one before and said the first thing that came into my head, 'F***, it looks like a roast chicken!' to which my son took extreme offence and screamed, 'NO, IT DOESN'T!' before bursting into tears. I managed to calm him down but I was laughing my head off the entire time and I'm surprised no one threatened me with the Department of Community Services!
Hey Goose, ya big stud! Take me to bed or lose me for ever.

At a similar age I had a run in with a goat at Taronga Park in Sydney. The family came back looking for me and resolved the stand-off. The goat had its head down, horns pointed toward me, and I had hold of both horns, and neither of us could back off.

Since then, though, I have patted a 6 month old Lion, an adult Jaguar [recently fed], and a Malaysian Sun Bear [cub]. :D

They survived meeting me, but would have died of old age by now I suspect, except the Lion which was shot about 3 months later when it killed some kid in Sydney who tried the same thing - I was about 12 at the time - apparently in Lions 6 months is a child, 9 months is a moody adolescent, and it makes all the difference! The bear may still be alive - that was about 14 years ago.

Here's the latest from my local rag.

Asif *****, was given an 8 month prison sentence by Burnley magistrates today after appearing before the bench with a pint of beer. *****, was appearing in court after admitting a charge of driving whilst under the influence of alcohol, his tenth conviction in ten years for the same offence. When asked why he apeared in court with a pint of beer, he replied that he was in the pub and had not finished his drink and didn't want to leave it behind when he had to be in court.
