* You think of the 1983 Magarey Medal presentation on tv every time you hear the song Flashdance by Irene Cara

* Channel 7 was ADS and channel 10 SAS (ie. before call sign swap due to Christopher Skase's purchasing of channel 10 in Adelaide going along with eastern states channel 7).

* Jane Doyle was reading the news on the ABC, Kevin Crease was on 7, then 9; Caroline Ainslie read news on channel 9 with Rob Kelvin; Adelaide tv news stations still had traditional weathermen (Keith Martyn/Barry Pitman)

* State Affair was the main current affairs show on Adelaide tv

* Every SANFL supporter wondered whether Woodville or Central District would ever win a premiership

* Football Times was a must read

* The "News" had a competition where you unscrambled an SANFL players name, and you also required a couple of pie wrappers also to enter

* You can remember staying up the whole night to watch Pat Cash win Wimbledon in 1987

When I was in Year 4 or so, the joke that year was, What did Buck Rogers say when he
woke up in the 25th Century?

"Have Woodville won a premiership yet?"

- Going to the Ice Arena for the day, and requesting songs from the DJ ("Take On Me" and "Listen Like Thieves" were two regulars of mine)

- Christmas Appeal every year, when it went all through the night from around 7pm to midday the next day

- Playing footy and cricket in the street, and moving the stumps when the call of "Car" would come.
Can you guess where I'm calling from, the Las Vegas Hilton...

I'd hate to think how many Downtown tokens I spent on that. To get up the necessary pace for the 100m, borrowing a lighter from someone to run over the buttons at full pelt.

Downtown and Magic Mountain tokens. It used to be 2 tokens per game, 20c per token. A mate heard they were making it one token games, but tokens would be put up to 40c. He bought $20 worth at 20c a token and waited a few weeks. Sure enough, they went up to 40c. Smart bloke :)

The amusement centre that used to be next to Colley Reserve, just up from Magic Mountain, with dodgems, video games (fairly old ones) and one of the odder Skill Testers I remember. It was a flat, glass topped table, with a metal arm that would "sweep" prizes, which were housed in plastic containers, like watches, bracelets etc. In all my years going there, I never saw one person win on them.

- Miss Beach Girl quests on TV

- Looking forward to watching the Birdman Rally at Glenelg, and then the Milk Carton Regatta.

- Shopping at Centrepoint, which is now the building where Target is in the CBD, and sneaking to Andromeda Records in the same building

- Staying up late to watch "Trax The Music", after "Music Express" that afternoon

- Knowing which shop the jingles of "Wheeerrrreee do ya get it??" or "There's a - ------ store on every corner" refer to, or you can finish the phrase "Remember folks, don't just tip the winners,...."

- When girls used to take elastics to school for recess and lunch

- The Troubridge was the main passage between Kangaroo Island and Adelaide, until the Hydroflite started leaving from North Haven

- Going to Apollo Stadium to watch either the basketball or a concert
