Going to have to fence our new house once complete and am looking at vusgeting future costs correctly.

Looking at fencing two sides both 25m long, just looking at using a standard 1.8m fence ideally 'good neighbour' but due to cost may go with 'post and rail'

Otherwise how easy of a DIY project is it and is there plenty of savings to be had. If I went down that path I would definatly hire a hole digger

Depends on how good you are with straight lines. If you're good with that then you'll be fine. If not, pay an expert because they look terrible when out of alignment.

And ain't that the truth. My neighbour and I decided to go with the new fence project a few years ago. We got another neighbour who is an earth moving contractor to come in with the frnt end loader and rip the old fence out of the ground then bore holes for the new galv square posts. He did all that with precision. The fence is 55 metres long so very easy to go out of kilter. The post holes were perfectly aligned but there is a huge margin for error when you stick a small post into a large hole and concrete it in. We had string lines going everywhere and it really took ages to get them all perfectly inline. The finished project while not perfect is pretty good and you'd struggle to fault it. We saved heaps by doing it ourselves.

Is it a flat block or do you need to retain anything? Lysaght Neetascreen can do 4 infill sheets per panel as opposed to good neighbour which is only 3 means a couple of less posts and holes over the distance. Panels are 2950 for Neetascreen and 2350 for good neighbour. Panel fences look better because no one gets the rails side. 1800 high you would use 2400 posts. In my opinion if your going to do it I would make sure it looks great, you always see it and if its crappy you will hate it. If you go down the contractor path I can give you some details of a customer of mine.

As noted in the shits thread, I am completely replumbing my house at the moment.

All new 100mm pipe to toilet and laundry with provisions for new kitchen ( in June ) and new bathroom ( in October ) to be put in place now and utilised later.

Some pics from this part of the exercise.

Yeah mate dead flat. We are still a couple of months away from this project but our slab is going down today and I'm trying to budget future costs. Think the DIY maybe the go seems like I will save a fair bit. Will just be a matter of rounding up some mates who have an idea about this

Just remember string lines and boundary pegs are your mates. The others are just slave labour ;)

Quick question...

How much would you expect to pay to have soil removed after earthworks for footings and trenches were cut for a house?

Trying to figure out if I have been conned... Probably because I'm to flippin' nice... :(

The biggest con in the building game!
A friend of mine had her block cut and was charged for moving the dirt from the back to the front. It was never moved!

What use reckon is a fair price to remove 4 tonne of dirt with a little plastic and cardboard through it on short notice!

Just got quoted $300 and will be gone by 1pm today
