I reckon I've told 15 people about the gas bloke, it's been overwhelming the percentage of people who think he's punch worthy. Somewhere near 100%. :-)

I don't know who you're talking about but I dislike him too now.

Isn't this one on MT's banned list IIRC?

Ive heard more horror stories than positives. But again they may have improved, changed staff etc

Any place that serves steaks that are off (on a number of times) should be banned by everyone, nice place for a beer tho.

He is a good bloke Paul, very by the book. Along with all the issues you've mentioned you only have to look at all the decent staff that have moved on over the last 2 years aswell, although the last male Manager might have started that ball rolling. Like most pubs, they don't really give a rats about the front bar, it's the Pokies and meals they're really only concerned with and it's really showing now.

That's an excellent point.

When the bald bloke moved on the female who took over was tough, but fair, and the team under her was excellent. Not anymore.

A lot of gambling rules have altered in recent times (or started to be used) resulting in changes to a lot of promotions.
We had to stop the jackpot for our punters club and the pub I drink at had multiple changes including getting rid of Jag the Joker.

I'm actually suprised how well the front bar is looked after at the pub I work at especially with things like $4 pints 3pm to 8pm Friday, $5 pints 3pm to 5pm every other day, free raffles Thursday and Friday, $12 pint and parmi lunches, putting in extra money to the punters club, amazing value with the footy tipping (you're in front after a month just on free drinks alone), etc, free munchies, etc.

The pub I drink has toss the boss Tuesday nights where you get free drinks if you call the toss and free raffles Thurs to Sat where I won 10 free pints two Saturdays ago.

The only thing the pokies customers get are the occassional snack and complimentary coffee or soft drinks, if we mispour a drink we can't even give it to someone in the pokies room due to strict laws.

Our diners do get it good with 2 for 1 lunches everyday and different dining specials every night, but they don't get the drink specials the front bar get. Our front bar is packed Thursday and Friday nights and close to it Saturday arvos, I look after our front bar regulars very well. ;)

Weeknights pints are $5 from 5-8pm, weekends a bucket with 4 stubbies is $20, there's some value to be had, for sure.

The punters jackpot was dropped because The Rex got up over $6000 IIRC.

It might have got "found out" due to the Rex. Its definately a no no now under current laws or regulations.
Jackpot comps got droped everywhere (such as the jag the joker I mentioned which was run at Spirit hotels, not ALH) at the same time.

I'm pretty sure comps like that can't exceed $2000 without a licence, well that's how it was when I was running a club and we had this very popular money spinner called "chase the ace".

I also had to negate around the laws for poker tournaments as they were seemingly impossible.

Unlicensed raffles are max $4500.

That's prize money yeah? Like you can raise $9k for instance, but only $4500 can go to one winner?

They must have put it up since, good.

Pubs have been told under current laws and regulations any sort of "jackpot" game in front bars no matter what it reaches are no-nos.
Came in at the start of this year.

Any bars, traditionally they were played mainly in front bars.
Might have been late last year now I think about it too.

Found a little place called "MC&K on Mylkappa Road" between Gumeracha and Birdwood yesterday. One of those little places you'd never know about if you didn't follow the "Cellar Door" sign on the main road. Classic Adelaide Hills winery, small tasting area with combustion heater, opens into a 30-40 seat restaurant over looking a valley.

They craft small batch wines from small vineyards and do small batch brews (they had a creamy ale on tap yesterday that was DELICIOUS) and the smell of the curries coming from the kitchen was ridiculous. Mrs Boon took home a Shiraz Tempranillo after a small woft of a few reds.

We hadn't planned a spot for lunch so to drop $40-70 each on a meal wasn't on the radar but a return trip is certainly on the cards. Get the feeling the chef in the kitchen ( not a cook ) really knew food so a proper sit down would be more appropriate in that place than a quick bite.
