Can any of you business types explain to me what "Withholding Tax 20%" means on a quote for some building work?

Never seen it before on a quote?

Withholding tax applies if you don't record your TFN on your bank accounts/shares, thats the extent of my knowledge on it.

We got a quote for some work at our place which included $114 Withholding Tax. I asked the guy what it meant and who pays it. He told me he didn’t know, his invoice software adds it automatically. He said to just ignore it. This is a young lad just starting out, we are invoice 7. I am just trying to find out if he is digging some sort of hole for himself tax wise if he has told all his clients to ignore it.
He seems a decent young bloke, I suspect he needs to talk to an accountant but I would like to have some understanding of the implications so as to get him to do so.

He’s playing with fire from both the tax dept and the dept of fair trading/accc down the line if it’s not sorted. Looking for some advice, perspectives or experiences regarding buy a house I'm really keen on.

On this RE company's offer form there is the question "is this your best and final offer".
I have only ever put a couple of offers on houses and, over the years, seen probably half-a-dozen other forms. I can't ever recall seeing this before.

I know what I'd like to pay for it, and what it could go for. They aren't heaps different and the upper end would be achievable but more comfortable if I could get it slightly less obviously..
Don't want to be in the situation of not getting another opportunity if I say it's my final offer, don't want to be played off if I say and the agent/buyers think they can extract a bit more from me by playing the games they do.

That’s what I would do, stay on the front foot and make them earn their keep. It’s just a ploy to try to inflate the sale price.

Mrs and I are having a debate.. disrespectful or not:

Got a lady who has lived with us for a couple years coz she had no where to go (best friend of the eldest daughter).. got a boyfriend earlier in the year, got knocked up, then her boyfriend moved in coz his mum kicked him out.

They left an hour ago - apparently having a baby shower around the corner.

Should we have got an invite? I say no / who cares.. Mrs is not happy.

Thoughts?
