Woolworths about 66% is away from the Kiln and market area ?
There is understandably plenty happening behind the scenes, and just maybe a lifeline for the popular market ?

Haven't been to the Brickworks in about 12 years. Even back then the place was decrepit and run down.

Anything will be an improvement on the site.
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

Decent crowd today at the Brickworks
Some traders did OK
Picked up a few top quality inexpensive records and a print of the Betting Ring at Flemington racecourse in 1887
Bought a Tubby Justice album for a steal at $1

A couple of the traders I chatted with still had no idea if the BW will continue trading
Nick Xenephon is campaigning for the stall holders , and one stall holder was praising the great man

One stall holder is selling a a Sherrin footy signed by the Glenelg Footballers on the late 1990s
Mention my name for a 10% discount on the footy
Dont mention my name and get a 20% discount

Regards

I haven't been to the Brickworks in probably a good 20 years but thinking about going one final time this weekend.

What kind of stalls do they have there now, still little cheap trinkets and things like that?

Have they got much in the way of food for lunch and a coffee?

Yep, they had some rubbish, but it's pretty sad that Woolworths want to just raze everything and replace it with a woolworths, a Big Woolworths and a woolies-alcohol shop, plus control and make sure we get the same few chain stores. Good grief, how about a better range, variety, instead of the same shopping centre replicated in every suburb?

I went to the Brickworks today and it's a lot more rubbishy now than when I last was there. A lot of dodgy looking types walking around the joint too. Managed to buy a pouch of Bank tobacco (last one left ) from the tobacco stall there though and got a yiros & coffee from a greek food shop there although I think I'm paying for that one now lol

Nothing there really worth buying and despite how run down it is and the lack of stalls now it's at least got some sort of character and offers something a little different but like hell we need another bloody Woolies.

I only used to go there to buy goat occasionally from the halal butchers there...but had to shield my kids' eyes from the atrocities behind the glass :-&

A PUBLIC plaza with restaurants, cafes and specialty shops is being considered by West Torrens Council to replace the Brickworks Markets.

In a recent letter to Brickworks traders(Thursday, April 12) West Torrens Council chief executive Terry Buss, referring to intentions for the land, said the site should be a “vibrant, active area incorporating a mix of uses including restaurants, shops and commercial activity operating beyond normal business hours.”

The letter stated the council also was considering removing the market shed attached to the State Heritage-listed kiln.

“Non-original structures attached to or immediately abutting the kiln or chimney will be removed to improve the integrity and prominence of the State Heritage Place,” the letter said.

Council staff last month told traders they were not prepared to offer a lease extension to stallholders after the 18-month development of an $85 million Woolworths complex adjacent to the markets.
