Why are there so many lesbians in women's sport?

Because they can't play men's sports, silly!

It's moreso in the traditionally-male-dominated sports which have become more popular with women in the last few years.

Perhaps previously they were encouraged to repress their true selves and encouraged to go into other spheres?

Traditionally feminie sports - netball seems to be more hetero. Tennis seems to have a mix but sway towards be more hetero. Hockey?

Perhaps there was always this proportion but for those who played, their competitions were hidden from the public gaze, think Aussie rules, soccer which where males struggled for attention let alone female.

Cricket, which has been around for 100 years, seems to have a more even mix.

Then it isn't a serious question.

My question would be, why does there seem to be less (very rare) men that are homosexual in sport?

Is it coz it seems "normal" to expect that women who compete in sport prefer same-sex relationships, yet still seems like maybe it's taboo or not masculine for males to do so?

For what it's worth, before someone says it - no it doesn't matter, certainly doesn't bother me in the slightest.. just curious.

Probably plenty of gay men too but it does seem a lot more accepted in women’s sport and they are a lot more grown up about it.
Only ever been a handful of males from elite sport come out and with all the hate on social media they probably think it’s not worth it. Only have to look at all the hate and vitriol that Josh Cavallo copped

Damn, didn't see this post. My bad.

4 Corners had a crack last night
Used 1990's footage of Sam Newman to highlight the problem

The following is a generalisation. If you are easily offended, don't read it. If however, you are interested in understanding possible reasons, and can do so in a mature fashion, without thinking everything is an attack on someone else, then please feel free to read on.

One possible explanation might be as follows.
Heterosexual girls stop playing sport around 14/15. (Not all of them, but some). This is for a range of reasons. Some want to chase boys, others just aren't that interested in competition. Girls find it easier to socialise without a reason too.

Boys are wired differently. Boys want to continue to compete. Its the same ingrained nature that sees us do dumb sh!t when we are on the sauce. Boys continue to play sport past the age of 15 to scratch that competitive itch, and for others its a way of catching up with mates, without just going somewhere for a chat.

Now, if you buy into the above generalisations, (once again, not all, but enough that those generalisations are a thing), then the extension isn't that hard to grasp. Gay blokes find it easier to catch up for a chat, and can do so without sport. They also don't necessarily have that same drive for competition. As such, gay blokes drop out of sport at a quicker rate than heterosexual blokes. And with the girls the reverse is true. They don't get distracted by boys, or fashion or make up. (once again, some, not all). So they stay in sport longer.

For this reason, as well as many others, I believe it is reasonably easy to understand why in male sports gay players are a lower percentage than the general population, and in female sport, gay players are a higher percentage compared to the general population.

Once again, generalisation, not everyone, etc, and there are also other reasons, but for mine, the above it makes sense and is one of many factors.

Maybe there's the same amount of gay men playing sport but they're too frightened to come out because of the stigma?

I don’t care what colour you are, sexual orientation or even if you barrack for the Power. Makes no difference to me, we are all humans (well, maybe not Port supporters)

Right you are!
I can report that the Swans kicked 2 late goals and ended up winning by 10 points.
They're now lobbying the AFL for the extra % they deserve and are hoping for some concessions next season. :D

Better reply than the maintenance program I was going to use.
