What about the tavern/ale house, any good gadj?

Ah true. Thursday nights, pizza's are 9 bucks down from 23. I can certainly recommend that one! And they do/did $4 pints of Coopers Lager too on Saturday afternoons. All round, 5 star.

We go to Wallaroo/North Shore regularly as well.
You been to Anglers inn in last 12 months?

It used to be shit but they have a new menu.......not sure about new chef/cook but the food there is really good now.
It is more expensive now than the other pubs but worth it.

The Kadina( Exchange Hotel?) is probably the best in that area still though.

Agree re: The Exchange.

No, last we ate at the Anglers was about 2, 2.5 years ago. I'll have to make sure I stop by and check it out. It's the closest one to "home" too, so worthwhile dropping in. Their drive through prices are still the cheapest in the area.

I'm keen on checking out the Cornucopia as well but I hear it's reasonably rough.

Cornucopia is good for a beer during the day but best you leave the wife and kids at home......not real family friendly.
I wouldn't have eaten at the Anglers previously if you paid me.......but was told it had improved out of sight and gave it a go.
Definitely worth a feed.

Haven't been to the Alehouse for a couple of years, so it may have improved, but was overrated and overpriced.
Exchange is a good pub meal.
An Pobel on the edge of Kadina seems to have a pretty good name.

Whoever mentioned the Modbury is right.

Overpriced... and not great - and small.

Last time I went there a mate took me for my birthday - we both got the S&P Squid mains ($24 maybe) and we had to ask if it was the entrée server by mistake.

Any idea what that place has or is turning into?
I hear it was sold a little while ago.

It is now called Mangosteen
Very similar to Pepper Leaf down the road "modern Asian"
Went last Tuesday and was reasonably impressed, wine list left a bit to be desired though

Raffles Room was awesome. And it was quite good before as Steventon Lodge.
Used to often get the Peking Duck there - was great

Live 5 minutes from there, and didn't know it had changed again. Will have to check it out.

Around me there are a few nice places.

I steer clear of the Modbury, but the Golden Grove Tavern in Surrey Downs is worth a visit.

I do love heading to ChenZo's on Target Hill Road in Greenwith - hidden away up there, I never leave hungry and always fulfilled.

Image

Left of centre - Newman's Nursery has excellent food (including breakfasts) just 60 seconds up from the TTG Hotel. Speaking of the Gully, I haven't eaten there for years - but wasn't bad it its day. But I steer clear of places where I need to fill a plate with salad myself, if I want a proper night out.

My girlfriend is in Burton, so we have been to the old Charlies - now the Waterloo Station Hotel (?) - and that is excellent. Especially for steak.

I really really don't like Caffe Primo. I will go to Cafe Buongiorno though.

At the Highland Shops (Target Hill Road - Greenwith) there is now a St Georges Bake House. Excellent. And bad for me.

The Victoria Hotel - Strathalbyn

Nice pub, massive dining room and cosy little Saloon Bar for a quiet drink after dinner.

$26 for a 350g Rump with a pretty good salad bar included. My Mrs had a roast chicken breast, she said it was excellent.

Mate had one of the biggest beef parmies I've ever seen, but we both thought the chips were average. Mates Mrs' schnitty was over cooked.

Nice pub, good meals, very good salad bar. Average surroundings at 11pm when the victorious footy club boys rolled in and one destroyed the mens bathroom.

Would have loved to have seen him in action. Spew all over the toilet and floor, in the basin, broken pint glass in the basin, soap dispenser off the wall with the bladder trodden on and soap squirted across half the room, 4 foot marks that slipped in different directions.

I walked in, turned around and found a staff member.....trust me, the bouncer was stoked it was he who had to deal with it.

Those chain faux Italian places like primo and aqua are pretty average in general.

It was good without being great.

Pizza,s were not outstanding, a bit too crusty and pretty pricey. Mrs Wristys mate had the veal and that was nice. Had cheesy garlic bread which was alright. The beer hit the spot and the coffee was excellent, tasty and strong.

$100.20 down to $75.15 with the entertainment book voucher for 3 meals, entree, 3 drinks and 3 coffees. Service was friendly, fast and overall excellent.

7.5/10..... The 25% off helped the rating
