bennymacca wrote:Went to Cafe Ivy on the parade this morning for breakfast as the mrs bought something from guntree and we had to go down that way.

Although they gave me a cappuccino when i ordered a latte, the coffee was excellent, perfect temp and not burnt at all.

Wifey and I both ordered big breakfasts, and once again the lass got the order wrong as she brought out the vegetarian versions and we had to ask for the bacon and the sausages. But they were nice about it, so i dont mind the mixup really.

Bacon was excellent, and it is amazing the difference a really nice piece of toast makes.

With the entertainment book voucher we got one of the breakfasts for free, so it came to around $26, pretty decent value.

7/10

Not bad BMac. Do you know what time they serve breakfast until. I might surprise the wife one day but prefer more of a brunch timing

1130, we got there a bit after 11

One very slight negative is it seems the tables for two inside are kind of squashed in the corners etc, but i didnt really mind this

Went to the Seven Stars on Angus Street Friday night before the footy.

Had the 350g Rib Eye (cooked medium), came with seeded mustard mash potato, Brussel sprouts and peppercorn jus. $35

Meat was amazing, cooked perfect, seasoned lightly, the mash and Brussel sprouts cooked to perfection and all complemented each other.

Also James Squire Golden Ale on tap, pint I think was $7.

9/10 (only one thing missing, needed a bread roll or piece of bread to clean the plate with. Otherwise would have got a 10 :D )

I did think $30.00 for a bowl of pasta was a bit steep.

The Rezz at Newton

Nice spacious cafe and bistro with appealing decor and good service. Less than 10 minutes from order to service and we were given bread to hold us over. It's a 2 for 1 in the ent book. Both meals were $17. Can't really go wrong at $8.50 a meal.

I had the Mediterranean burger and fries and the Mrs had the Fish & Chips with side salad. Hers was excellent, a pair of nice fillets with a tasty light batter and a blend of garlic aioli you could bathe in. Mine was good, a solid hotel burger with decent flavours and a tasty fat seasoned fry. The burger wasn't at the level of 127 or Foundry but kicked the ass of hungry jacks. Had Swiss cheese and relish and was hard for me to wrap the laughing gear around. Probably wouldn't get it again but it wasn't disappointing.

The venue has good kids area, indoor or outdoor cafe dining, bistro dining. A nice clean looking kitchen you can look in as you enter and is well staffed. Probably get the voucher out the work ent book for a future Tuesday when I am in the area. I will be getting the fish and chips although there is a 300g scotch fillet that interested me.

8/10.

From memory I haven't given out too many bad reviews, maybe 4 in the last 2 years but I have left one out from when I had my little holiday.

Challa gardens hotel on Torrens Road.

Got the mustard and cheese bread as an entree and half way through Mrs Wristy said "Ohhh dear, is that...um...mould". Yes it was.

I could give further details but the experience was ruined. Not good enough. Had been ok on previous visits but to serve my pregnant wife food with mould in it is piss poor form.

2/10

The bistro is sensational, never left that place disappointed.
I believe it will be closing later this year for an extended period due to renos.
Making it more of a function centre and wedding venue upstairs IIRC

Beef Snitty w mushroom sauce.
Served on top of the chips is an immediate deduction from me. Sauce was decent and a large serving of Snitty.
Ambience was shit cos I got room service.

Greek spiced lamb tenderloin w chips, tzatziki and a Greek salad.
Asked for medium rare, came medium well.
Thankfully there was tzatziki to lubricate the lamb.
Salad was great
