As you say cripple, it was smart by Marshall, but also would you say by the Kiwi who through the pass as he would have been able to throw it nearly anywhere, knowing the ref's wouldn't have been able to call anything?

Not exactly true, a referee will always watch the pass and if he feels it went forward he will rule on it. Obviously sometimes touch judges and referees are caught out of position but 9/10 times they will pick it up. Generally the touch judge watches the kicker to check that players are onside so should be in a good enough position to pick up a forward pass. If it was a forward pass i'd say NZ prob dodged a bullet getting away with it to be honest.

"Nearly anywhere" was probably bad words, but the odds were in his favour to throw a "Hail Mary" pass.
