Yankees defeat the Rays 4-2 in the first game of the double header and have now sealed a playoff berth. Depending on other results they can also sew up the AL East title

Red Sox lose three out of four against Baltimore at Fenway. This morning's game was a pisser with Reynolds (Oriole's) smacking two home runs off Beckett. Boston now clinging to the wild card by a pubic hair. Lester will start the series agianst Yankees this weekend in the Bronx.

We helped you out again SP by beating the Rays 4-2 in both games of the Double header. Yankees have now won the AL East. I reckon the Angels are a greater threat than the Rays in the WC race but still think the Sox will hang on but reckon you will need to at least pinch one in the Bronx over the weekend before finishing with the Orioles

Boston may well pull one or two wins out of the Bronx and Id like to think they could sweep Baltimore next week. It would set up a seriously good AL play-off set

The Rays crunched the Yankees today to move within 2 games of the Sox in the WC race. The Angels loss today puts them a further game behind.
In the NL the Cards had a great chance to close within 1 game of the Braves when they led 6-2 top of the 9th against the Mets, unfortunately for them they gave up 6 runs in the last innings.

you know, sometimes I suspect there is a touch of the one-day cricket sham in all this? Like whose turn is it to win because TV ratings probably drive the whole shooting match. How come Boston suddenly plays so poor? Where is San Francisco all of a sudden? Texas Rangers - helloooo! Phillies look the goods to me but if it is the Yankees turn (does Eddie McGuire run them too?) then why do the rest bother to turn up? Better to just save us all the pain. Give the Yankees the pennant and the rings and the half a billion bucks its probably worth and lets get down to Florida for another pre-season in the sun

Texas win the AL West.
Only WC spots up for grabs now.
Boston crunched in Game 1 against the Yankees but still with a 2 game lead in AL
Atlanta with a 2 game lead over the Cards in the NL

Yankees def Boston 6-2 in Game 2.
The Rays have closed the gap to 0.5.
The Cards are now only a game behind the Braves in the NL
Yankees have secured home field advantage for AL playoffs

Boston def the Yankees 7-4 in a 14 innings epic to save their season.
Now lead the Rays by 1 game.
Really only a straight out shootout for the AL WC. The Angels would need to sweep their series against Texas and rely on Tampa and Boston to drop at least 2 each.
Boston travel to Cambden fields for a series against the Orioles and Tampa host the Yankees at Tropicana. Would be more than happy for us to be swept if it denies the Red Sox a playoff spot :D

The Rays won Game 1 against the Yankees and Boston dropped Game 1 against the Orioles. Both sides tied now with 2 to play. LA Angels eliminated.
In the NL the Phillies notched up win 100 and will be the only side in the league to get to 100 wins this season.
With the Braves and Cards losing it means the Braves still hold a 1 game advantage with 2 to play

Why do you not like Boston Jim?

If you think Essendon v Carlton or Collingwood rivalries are fierce then times that by 100 and you have the Yankees v Red Sox rivalries. Both sides cant stand each other. Its probably the most heated rivalry in US sport. No Yankee fan would ever want to see Boston do well. ;)

So tomorrows final day of the regular season is set up for a cracker.
In the AL the Sox and Rays are tied.
In the NL the Braves and Cards are tied.
Very real possibility of having wildcard playoffs in both divisions.
So after 161 regular season games it all comes down to tomorrow for 4 sides

Yeah Boston especially.
If Boston dont get through they will be the first side ever to blow a 10 game lead in WC race.
I think this was Bostons worst September record in history

We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

The most amazing last day of the regular season ive ever seen.
In the NL the Cards easily disposed of Houston and Atlanta led Philly 3-2 in 9th, Philly levelled and then won it in 13th innings to send the Cards into WC spot.
In the AL the Yankees led 7-0 in the 8th and the Sox were leading 3-2 in the 9th so it looked like Boston would go through but in an amazing twist the Rays levelled at 7-7 with the Yankees and then won it in the 12th innings, at around the same time Baltimore were 2 men out bottom of the 9th trailing 2-3 and went on to win it 4-3 so Tampa go into WC and Boston gone
