3 years will decimate the charter business.

The pro's are the one's who need to be banned

This.

They can take 3 people out on the boat and bring in 15 up to 60cm and 6 over 60cm every day of the season.

The limit for up to 60cm ( it's actually 38cm-60cm ) is ridiculous, the breeding stock has been getting raped by the charter boat operators for too long.

Having said that, a 2 year ban might be just what the fish stock needs.

Is that the charter operators fault or the charter customers?

I think bum crack was referring to professional fishers ?

I think BC was referring to the Pro's?

So as those who dabble a line, did you notice a decrease in numbers in recent years??

I used to go snapper fishing quite a bit at Port Neill and we always used to get snapper, however, once the long liners came though and cleaned them out, they are almost non existent there now.

Absolutely. You could chug out to the Norma Wreck, Glenelg Tyre Reef or the West Beach grounds and get yourself a couple of nice table sized fish without too much effort. Sit on the edge of the shipping channel at night and you might get yourself a thumper. Not anymore. In fact, if you wanted to bag out on whiting or snapper in Adelaide metro waters you'll be needing a hell of a lot of luck or a boat you can eat/sleep/shit/fish on.

He is, but I'd class the charter boat's as professional, that's what they do, they get paid to take people to catch fish.

Went to BCF the other day to grab some more yabby pots as we were headed to Swan Reach, told by staff they no longer sell them due to victorian legislation?!
https://vfa.vic.gov.au/recreational-fis ... shing-gear
They did advise Spot On Salisbury (which is actually my usual local shop) and happy to say you can still get them there.
How long before SA goes the same way i wonder.

Just using your post as a side note . My Xmas present was a $50 gift card from BCF I’m that close I can walk to them .
So this is a warning I went in on Boxing Day morning after I fished the Pat .
Found the double clutches got one laser double clutch the sign said 20 percent off all hardbody lures picked up some leader .
Go to pay and I asked does that include the 20 percent off no but they fixed up the price
So Friday night I get an email telling me I have 10 percent off any purchase .
In I go they take 10 percent off and again I asked does that Include the 20 percent off the teenager had to get help and take another 20 percent off .

Just a warning always make certain with BCF they actually give you the advertised discount
Anaconda is another one get $20 off and they make double clutches $19.90 so you have to buy an extra product .

After all that the double clutches got me some bream nothing Legal

Should have happened a long time ago, provided the money goes back into the sustainability of rec fishing by re-stocking native fish in the rivers etc.

I don't know why anyone would want to pay extra tax.
And I don't trust any Treasurer's promise that its for our own good and all money will go back to fishing
So, what happens to the people who visit us at Carrickalinga?
Can we go fishing? Do you have a licence?

I also heard last week that a study found that the marine parks have done f'all good for the fishing stocks

Police bag limits properly, narrow the size of stock that can be taken ( not juvenile or breeding stock ) and allow recreational fishers to catch them again. Bullshit decision.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-12-17/ ... /101784940

The South Australian government has extended a ban on fishing for snapper in most waters for another three-and-a-half years as the species population continues to struggle.

Key points:
A ban on fishing for snapper in most state waters has been extended until July 2026
A recent report found snapper stocks remain depleted
The state government will spend $8.8 million on fishing sector support and snapper recovery programs

The decision follows the release of a report assessing snapper stock numbers in state waters by the South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) last month.

The report found the ban, which was introduced in November 2019, stopped the overall decline in snapper numbers but there was yet to be any evidence of stock recovery in the Spencer Gulf, West Coast and Gulf St Vincent.

In other words, the ban has been an abject failure so, like all failed projects, we are going to double down on it.
Why? Because they haven't done enough to fix the problem.

And they want to trust us that they will give all fishing licence revenue back to fishing.
Same mob promised that the bookmaker tax would go back to the industry
And spent $340m on diesel engines to try to save their own jobs

Useless ****s

How does one tell if they are breeding stock without cutting their gonads out to see if they've shriveled up?
