Had to have a laugh at the commentary of the Spurs/Reading game.
Spurs had just got their 4th when the caller said, "We'll need a
calculator to keep up with the scoring".
That says a lot about soccer, its people need a calculator to count to four.
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

If you're watching another match, flick it over to this one - UNBELIEVABLE.

Spurs never fail to provide drama galore. Can't wait for the replay tonight!!!

Ridiculous match, and one of the most entertaining I've watched all season ... As a neutral, Spurs are a great team to watch, they usually bring out the best and worst of their abilities in every game ... How Robinson kept for England for so long is beyond me - I know they have a shortage of keepers but hell I'd take David James over him anyday, and thats saying something!!

Berbatov's 4 should make my dream team score pretty reasonable this week :D ... And just by the way young Kitson put in some beautiful finishes for the unlucky Reading!

Elsewhere, despite a Ronaldo missed penalty, West Hams win was well deserved, Newcastle were unlucky not to take something away from Stamford Bridge, Boro and Pompey was a snooze fest and great to see Sunderland score a well deserved and overdue victory, especially with Diouf again acting like a complete Sidchrome (sp?) Spanner.

Yep, I watched it, got to bed about 3.30am.
Crikey, I thought the Sydney v Mariners game a week ago was amazin but this topped that!
When we were 4-3 down half way through the last half I thought we were gone.
How good is that Berbatov!!

News today, is that Berbatov wants out. Has publicly stated that he wants to play for a bigger club. that would leave only Arsenal. Man U or Liverpool in the EPL, unles he is hoping for a move abroad. His body language in the Villa v Spurs games said it all today. Not interested.

FFS he only signed for Spurs this season. The guy is up his own arse. Forget the four he kicked against Reading, IMO they should let him go for big bucks (if they can get it) in the January Sales, and let DeFoe have another crack. Scored a great goal today, and if Blubertoff wants a move out, they would be better off letting him go than forcing him to stay and disrupt, what has become, a tight group.

Interesting stat, Pompey have not scored a goal at home since they beat Readinig 7 - 4, eight games ago.

Lightning striking twice perhaps DA? Spurs 6 - 4 Reading.

Spare a thought for Reading, twice scoring 4 goals away from home and both times losing.

My thoughts exactly. Keano is the soul of Spurs, but last night he sat on the pine and only when he came on did Spurs look like scoring. Defoe has missed out all season for Berbatov. Berbatov is a brilliant player, but his attitude and ego long overtook his abilities. The fact that only now the transfer period is upon us he has started performing shows his lack of off-field class.

Spurs need to sell him now preferably to a European club for £30m+.

And the 6-4 was laughable. Entertaining, but the defending was deplorable.

Anyway, pressure is on Liverpool not to drop any more points tonight to keep up with the big boys. Le Arse seems to be steaming away at the moment with Manure their only real challengers. Chelski are not the team they have been in previous seasons and with a large chunk of their side missing for Jan due to the African Cup of Nations, they could be playing catch up at the worng time of the season.

For me, the Champions League is going to provide the best spectacle in the next couple of months. Some cracking matches to come.

Most Gunner fans seem call Arsenal 'The Arsenal' as above. (I prefer to call them the ****'s, but I'm a little biased  )

Is there any reason for it, or is it just the way it is?

just the way it is champ 8)

Thought I'd dig this one up again as I found the answer on Christmas Eve. I was drinking with a couple of poms who turned out to be Gooners and when they found out I was a Spurs fan, wanted to tear my head off!!! HAHAHA, not really, great blokes actually and LOVE their EPL. Both had tickets on the halfway line close to the front of the 2nd tier of the Emirates. Awesome seats.

Anyhoo, 'The Arsenal' comes from the way back when Arsenal was based near Greenwich and called 'Woolwich Arsenal'. 'The term 'The Arsenal' originates from the fact that that is where the main defence weapons system to London was based back in the day and was commonly referred to 'The Arsenal' - which is also why Arsenal are called the Gunners.

So, my Gooner mates say it's 'The Arsenal' 'till they die, which will be either Jan 5 against Burnely or Jan 22 against Spurs!

More info on Berbatov:

Tottenham coach Juande Ramos has warned potential bidders for Dimitar Berbatov that they would have to break the British transfer record to sign the striker.

Ramos is confident Berbatov will remain at Spurs beyond the January transfer window despite the 26-year-old's agent suggesting he would want to leave White Hart Lane if the right offer was made.

Manchester United and Chelsea have been linked with a move for the Bulgarian international, who has scored 11 times this season, but Ramos does not feel any club will match Spurs' valuation.

Ramos believes his player commands a bigger fee than the cost of bringing Andriy Shevchenko to Stamford Bridge, which is valued around the £30million (A$67.2million) mark.

"I think a club would have to break the British transfer record to sign Berbatov," said Ramos.

"At this moment Berbatov's value is more than this price. At least that is what we think."

"But everyone has a price. The intention of Tottenham is not to sell the player."

"It's not a question for me if a club can pay this. The other clubs will know what they need for their squads. But it's normal that for a player of this level they would have to pay such an amount because there are very few players of his class."

He added: "Unless something strange happens - and I think it will not happen - there's not going to be a club that will pay the price that Tottenham could accept."

The decision on whether Berbatov would be allowed to go is not down to Ramos, but the Spaniard's valuation of his striker stems from rating him as the finest player not currently involved in the Champions League.

"The truth is that I understand perfectly why he would cost so much money because there are few players like Berbatov," he said.

"And those who do exist play for great teams who play in the Champions League. And those great teams will not sell their players."

"He's the only great player who has not played in the Champions League that they could sign."

A bid of more than £30million would represent a healthy profit on the £10.9million Spurs paid Bayer Leverkusen at the start of last season, and it would also cancel out the bulk of the off-season spending.

But Ramos is desperate to keep Berbatov to guide Spurs towards European qualification - and also to prove they are not a selling club.

"That is a logical deduction," he said. "So our intention is not to sell Berbatov and we don't want to. What's more we want to sign good players."

"I fully expect that at the end of January I will have all my four strikers."

"At this moment I am convinced they will continue with us because we want them to."

Despite his intentions, Ramos accepts the final decision will be made by chairman Daniel Levy.

Levy has made encouraging statements this week and insists the club will only be involved in "essential" deals.

"From the first moment the decision has been out of my hands," head coach Ramos added.

"The final decision rests with the club. I don't want to sell Berbatov. I want the best players. But the club have to make a decision."

Ramos has identified the players he wants to bring to Spurs this month and may have to sell to raise cash, with Wayne Routledge and Hossam Ghaly expected to leave.

Meanwhile, Ledley King is fit after an inflammation to the knee last week led to him being rested against Aston Villa on New Year's Day.

"In the last game he ended up with an inflammation of the knee," Ramos said.

"Playing every two or three days, you have to give him a rest."

Despite King's return, Spurs have been linked with players to bolster a defence that has kept just three clean sheets in the league all season.

Rangers and Scotland full-back Alan Hutton has been looked at and reports north of the border have suggested he has edged closer to a move.

Wrap
Oldham produced the biggest shock of the FA Cup third round when they knocked out Everton with a 1-0 away win.
Oldham, 13th in League One, had to wait an extra 30 minute to kick-off against Everton, sixth in the Premier League, because of fire at a fish and chip shop near their hosts' Goodison Park ground. Scottish midfielder Gary McDonald made Everton pay for fielding an under-strength side with a goal in first-half injury time and Oldham hung on as striker Ayegbeni Yakubu hit the post for Everton, who last won the FA Cup in 1995, in injury time.

Fellow League One side Huddersfield also enjoyed victory over top-flight opposition by beating Birmingham City 2-1 in the third round.
Huddersfield went ahead the Galpharm Stadium through Luke Beckett in the fourth minute before Garry O'Connor equalised for Birmingham in the 19th minute. But with the match heading towards a replay, Chris Brandon scored for Huddersfield with nine minutes left to send their Premier League opponents crashing.

Premier League Blackburn Rovers also fell at the first hurdle, beaten 4-1 at home as Championship Coventry City enjoyed their second surprise result in Cup competition this season. Coventry, FA Cup winners in 1987, saw Malta striker Michael Mifsud open the scoring at Ewood Park with a 34th minute volley. The visitors, who'd already knocked Manchester United out of the League Cup, extended their lead through an Elliott Ward penalty in the 64th minute. Dele Adebola made it 3-0 in the 83rd minute before David Bentley pulled one back for Blackburn. Coventry, 17th in the Championship, had the last word when Mifsud scored his second in the 90th minute.

Meanwhile, in a fourth Premier League shock, Sheffield United, also of the Championship, ensured that top-flight Bolton's FA Cup campaign fell at the first hurdle with a 1-0 away win. David Carney grabbed Sheffield United's decisive goal three minutes before half-time against a weakened Bolton.

Non-league Havant and Waterlooville, in a match where both sides had a man sent-off, came from behind to draw 1-1 away to League One leaders Swansea. Lowly Havant, who play in the second flight of England's non-league set-up, kept out Swansea until the 74th minute when Andy Robinson put the hosts ahead. But Havant fought back and levelled three minutes from the finish through Rocky Baptiste.

Holders Chelsea beat west London rivals and big-spending Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers 1-0. Chelsea beat QPR thanks to a fortunate own-goal when Claudio Pizarro's shot hit the post and rebounded in off the back of Rangers keeper Lee Camp in the 28th minute at Stamford Bridge.

Middlesbrough came from behind to defeat Bristol City 2-1. Luke Fontaine gave Bristol City an 18th minute lead before Stewart Downing made it 1-1 for Middlesbrough at their Championship hosts. David Wheater scored Boro's winner in the 72nd minute.

Tottenham and Reading, who recently shared 10 goals in the Premier League, drew 2-2 at White Hart Lane. Want-away striker Dimitar Berbatov twice gave Tottenham the lead but Stephen Hunt twice equalised for Reading to ensure a replay.

West Ham and Manchester City drew 0-0. Enough said about this one

David Nugent's first goal in three months gave Portsmouth victory at Portman Road after Ipswich's Liam Trotter had been controversially sent-off for a foul on Pedro Mendes.

Championship sides Wolves and Cardiff City both came from a goal behind against non-league opposition. Wolves, four-times FA Cup winners, beat Cambridge United 2-1 while Chasetown of Southern League Division One (Midlands), the lowest-ranked club ever to reach this stage of the FA Cup, saw their dreams of further glory end in a 3-1 home defeat against Cardiff.

Chelski 2 - 1 Everton

Chelski finished with 10 men as Mikel sent off. Wright Phillips opened the scoring in the 1st half, Yakubu equalised with Evertons only 2nd attempt on goal, but Lescott finished off for Chelski.

In the second 1st leg fixture of the Carling Cup:

Arsenal 1 drew Spurs 1

Spurs had ALL the play and led for around 45 mins, 5-6 great chances but only converted on 1. Arsenal has 2 realistic chances and gets lucky on the second. Spurs were clearly better all over the park and Ledley King is B.A.C.K. - great performance.

As with the fixture last night, great game to watch, brilliant skills on show and there's everything still to play for in the second leg at WHL in a fortnight. Hopefully I'm there!

Huh? What game did you watch. Or like the other 7000 no shows at Degenerates, were you too busy eating prawn sandwiches?
I'm not hiding the fact that Spurs missed their chances, Defoe and Malbranque both should have scored.
We'll see what happens on the 23rd.

Nah mate, didn't have a chance of getting a ticket apparently. From an Arsenal point of view, they weren't selling any tickets at all, as the match was considered part of their season ticket program. And trying to get in with the Spurs fans was impossible. Even my mate with a Spurs season ticket and membership couldn't get in. The Spurs allocation was only 5,000 due to security concerns from police.

My mate is trying to hook up a ticket for the second leg, but we'll see what happens. Alternatively, I found a website with tickets for 140 quid, which I may consider, as time is running out to see a North London Derby in the flesh!

It would have been massive for your boys to get a return leg at Emirates for the cup. Nice money spinner too I'd imagine!

yes i watched the game, like i said you didnt have all the play, most of but not all. A goal is a Goal no matter how it goes in, some might say walcott was lucky when he scored, other might say your keeper didnt do his job etc.yes should be a good game at the out house on the 23rd

Walcott was lucky. There's nothing ANY keeper let alone Cerny could have done about that.

Actually considering they've played 16 more games so far then Derby, they aren't looking too bad !

I've been pretty Ok with the results from the last few games.
Just can't get a win or a draw though...at least we aren't getting thumped anymore...(leave that to the Toons)...
The joy of being on the hill drinking beer cannot be understated
