Was good of him to spend a few hours at the pub with everyone and put a grand on the bar before the game on friday, hopefully now that he's retired he does it every week ;)

This is no surprise though, this was always planned to be his last season.

as written in the Northern Argus

Time to go Kev
How about Melbourne Victory captain Kevin Muscat’s latest exploits? In a career of 51 games for the Socceroos, 50 league games here and in Britain and more than 600 appearances as a key defender in the A League, the sad fact is Muscat’s reputation as a mindless bully will be more enduring than that of his undeniable brilliance on the field. His ugly tackle on Melbourne Heart’s Adrian Zahra recently resulted in an almost certain career-ending eight match suspension from the disciplinary board.
The 37-year old will sit out the rest of this season and if he does elect to play next season will have to serve out the remainder of his suspension before he can play again.
His career is chequered with acts of brutality. He was once dubbed “the most hated man in football” by Birmingham City player Martin Grainger. He faced a lawsuit after an horrendous tackle left a Charlton Athletic player so badly injured it was thought he would lose his leg.
While playing in the A league his dangerous tackles have ended one player's career, badly injured two other opponents and seen him notch up 12 red and 95 yellow cards.
This suspension will surely draw the curtain on the career of one of the league’s most vilified players and yet I can’t help but feel for him. He is currently the only player to twice captain a side to the A League championship and he played ten seasons in the English Premier League but no-one’s going to remember that. It just goes to show a sportsman can have all the athletic ability in the world, but his inability to control himself on the field will often determine his legacy. Surely the A League will be a safer place without him.

The ballad of Kevin Muscat

Like the evil gunslinger in a western,
He rolled into town.
Careless forwards he’d mow down.
Cartwheeling them to the ground.

The sheriff, he was quick with red.
“Get off the ground,” he said.
The gunslinger growled and snarled,
“Red card me, you’re off yer head.”

The crowd they jeered.
The Blue End cheered,
A man they loved.
The rest of us had had enough.

Reputation preceded the man,
He was given an eight game ban.
Still the Blue fans said he’d done nothing wrong,
Repeating that same ol’ song.

See ya Kev, you won’t be missed.
Finally the right send off, you’ve been dismissed.
For the last time, you’ve worn that shirt.
The last player you’ve cynically hurt.

Seeya Kev. It’s game over now.
It’s time to take that final bow.
The curtain’s fallen on your career.
On the way out, I hope the door doesn’t hit your rear.
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.

Kevin Muscat sullied his athletic brilliance with acts of brutality throughout his career.
Ask the young players whose careers he ended how they think he should be remembered.
A true champion has to be a good sport, not just a good player.
Good riddance
I'm pretty sure there's a lot more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking. And I plan on finding out what that is.

Just a shame he gets to play in the champion's league. If he was any sort of decent person he'd excuse himself from those games as well and just disappear from football.

Muscat was one of my favs.

Made a career out of not being the most talented.

Never made excuses and always wore his penalties without slagging refs off in the media or calling players out as being soft.

Was a vital part in both Melbournes championships, made all attackers think twice about trying to go past him.

As much as people hated him, he brings in crowds and is one of the key reasons Adelaide/Melbourne have such a fierce rivalry now. He was a headline grabber for both good and bad reasons which is something the A-League has struggled to do.

Many a striker will be glad to see him gone with good reason. His last tackle in an A-League match was disgraceful and was slightly out of character as generally he does attempt to win the ball as well as the man but this occasion he only had one aim and that was to injure the player. He should probably have been given at least one whole year if not more for that tackle alone.

Thanks for the memories Muscat.

You are kidding aren't you? Go back and watch vision of him. He was a foul mouthed pig.

The game is better off without him.

At the time and on the field he was, but once had cooled down he never made excuses afterwards. Even after the suspension was handed down.

Im not defending his on field actions but off the field he wore whatever penalty he was handed. He could of taught a few Adelaide United players/managers a lesson about that.

Yeah what a hero he was. A dirty sniping prick who only showed remorse (if they were genuine, I doubt it) once the penalty was about to be handed down in a vain attempt to try and protect his already shitty image.

He could be the greatest bloke on earth off pitch, but he plied his trade on pitch, so therefore the memories will based on that.

yeah fair call, and like i said at no level i would i attempt to defend some of his tackles. If he was given life for his last tackle i would have thought it was a tad harsh but could see where the penalty was coming from as that young player may never be the same again.

you look at all the Championship winning sides throughout Europe and they alway had that one player that crossed the line at times. Man U- Roy Keane, Arsenal- Patrick Vieria, AC Milan- Gattuso. Unfortunatly 11 silky skilled clean players doesnt win to many titles.
