The Hogg took a bit of a hit as you can see from the figures above. Every league lost ground with the exception of Hogg Division V which is now within spitting distance of Hogg Division III. The biggest loser this week wasn't some fat guy on Channel Ten but Hogg Division VI that dropped over 3000 places in the rankings. Hogg Division I assumed it's rightful place in the pecking order by sucking less hard than Division II this week with the Piglet once again the last out of the sty.

As in previous years in the Hogg Shield the coaches from AFL Online are outperforming safooty.net coaches. The Mozzies continue to dominate but perhaps the biggest surprise is the performance of Gibbo and her Underdogs who have made a flying start to the season. The biggest disappointment is MightyEagles who is not running last. Shame on you! Also, kudos goes to A Mum who has raced up the charts this week.

You need to make the Grand Final of Hogg II to be promoted to Hogg I. The Hogg is a head to head competition whereas SuperCoach as a whole is a rankings comp. Seeing as the majority of us mere mortals aren't really in the running for the 50k (well, the Mozzies and darcy might be!) it's all about winning your league.

The reason I am keeping a track of overall rankings is for next year. The Piglet will be Division VI at the very highest and a number of coaches will drop out so the rankings will help me decide who goes into some of the middle divisions next year. The only way to get into Hogg Premier, I and II next season is to qualify. We have to show some loyalty to Hogg coaches who have played every season.

If you make the Div V granny you may qualify for Div III if the promoted Piglet coaches do not accept the promotion - this is a fair chance as most of the coaches in that league are not eligible for promotion and it's more of a 'participation' type of league. It also depends on numbers. For example some Div III coaches from last year are now in Hogg Division I.

What does 'Hogg' mean?

We started up a series of fantasy comps in the office a couple of years ago. The first one was for the Champions trophy. Hammo (Poon Army) was always talking up Bradley Hogg as a player but he never picked him in any of the fantasy comps. Several of us did and it became a running joke as Hoggy started racking up big points.

So every online fantasy comp we ran was called the Hogg Shield. There were Hogg Shields for NRL, NFL, EPL, One day Cricket, Test Match Cricket, Rugby World Cup, Cricket World Cup, Soccer World Cup, Super XIV and Rugby League World cup. And of course, AFL. Now there is only one Hogg left and you blokes are in it.
