Can't remember the last time I started the Premier League season with a win so it's familiar territory for me as the REBCats went down to one of the league's powerhouses in Has Been. Would have been a nice scalp to get early doors but my mid price defenders burnt me badly (when will I ever learn LOL) and the guys I traded in were outperformed by the guys I traded out for about the nine millionth time.

Other moves I pulled worked better. I took on Gaz's 135 captaincy score with Danger and this combined with Goldy's point scoring glut got me back into the game. I put Menadue on the pine for McDonald-Tuppiwatsit's 71 but in the end Geelong's McCarthy outscored both of them. I didn't burn a trade for Papley but as soon as I put him on the ground he scores 60 points less but Has Been had him on field too so no harm there.

It was all down to the backline where Lonergan, Sheridan and even Laird spudded it up while I had Dea on the bench with a 90. Next week I have Ecky who flogged me last year.

Two time Grand Finalist and former champion Captain Who? has hit the ground running in the new SuperCoach season after recording a high scoring win over the luckless Ben Rolfsburgers. Last year the Rolfs lost quite a few high scoring matches early in the season and this year that tradition has continue with the poor bugger recording the second highest score in the league and getting rolled by the dude who got the highest. Whoever lost this one was going to be dead stiff.

It was a round where 2300 was par so at the other end of the scale is my Tinny mate Hammo who won his game against Richo Richo despite scoring 223 points than the Rolfs. As much fun as razzing up the Poon Army is the Pool Swimmers scored even less as they won their first Premier League game against Squeakeroos who are off to a slow start like they tend to do in recent seasons.

Les's Men are the ladder leaders after the first round after they recorded 2405 and smashed a suspect SHARKS combination who might be short of the mark this year. Cork in the Ocean and Q Before You were other sides to score under 2200 and the coaches will be getting the whiteboards out and hovering itchy fingers over the T button on a few under-performing players.

Pre-season scoring machine Hondo kept up his scoring but still has the burger ring in the W column after he lost a thriller to the Honey Badgers while the REBCats couldn't reel in a big lead that was well earned by Has Been. The Longwood Lions scored big early which they haven't done so to date in their Premier League history as they outpointed Delicious who were certainly not disgraced. The Underdogs aren't usually that but in this league they are and they made a mockery of my crap predictions to smash Q Man.

Rookie on field decisions cost me badly

Menadue over Oliver WTF was I thinking ??

Papley over McCarthy at home v Brisbane ... maybe not as obvious before the event (plus HB did this too so can't complain)

Just that Menadue blunder and there goes a W

Yeah I'm still not sure how I won that...

I'll need a bit more help than inconsistent Rookies to get past the Roflsburgers this week:

Honey Badgers vs Rofls=
Franklin vs Dusty
Stef vs Goldy
R.Gray vs Parker
DeGoey vs Hunter
Bartel vs Heater
Rich vs KK
Sheridan vs Dea

Round 2 Preview

Poon Army was on to me last week for not writing any previews so I thought I’d better do the right thing and do a write up this week.
I reckon the best match up for this week is between Ben Rolfsburgers and the Honey Badgers. Both sides scored well last week with the Rolfs scoring 2400 and getting rolled. Meanwhile the Badgers knocked off Hondo in another high scoring game. I’d expect more high scoring in this game but this time Rolfs will get the choccies.

Has Been and Delicious is another tasty encounter with valleys looking to open his Premier League account. I can speak from experience that playing against Has Been usually ends in tears so I’m expecting the reigning premier to get up here. Hondo and Underdogs will put on a pretty close game as well and I reckon Hondo will get up leaving both sides sitting at 1-1 after two rounds.

A couple of games look a bit one sided. The SHARKS look a long way off it at this stage and the Lions look set to pounce. Captain Who are absolutely flying at the moment and they will smash the Swimmers who scored an unconvincing win last week. Les’s Men look good things to get the job done against Squeaky who is a bit of a slow burner in recent seasons.

The REBCats are up against Ecky who might also be taking a conservative approach after a pretty handy win next week. Ecky looks pretty strong and probably won’t need to make too many moves to defeat a hit and miss Catters combination. Perhaps the most important fixture of this round is between Richo Richo and the Q Man. Both coaches have their issues after recently getting contract extensions and several non-performers and injured players might be in the gun. Richo Richo's season is probably over after losing to Poon Army so he'll need to win this one.

Lock of the week – Captain Who?
Eight point game – Q Before You vs. Richo Richo
We’ve got the close one! – Poon Army vs. Cork in the Ocean
Match of the Round – Ben Rolfsburgers vs. Honey Badgers

7 Delicious 1 1 4316 4256 101.41 4
8 Longwood Lions 1 1 4263 4221 101.00 4

9 Richo Richo Man 1 1 4222 4203 100.45 4
10 Pool Swimmers 1 1 4209 4208 100.02 4
11 Has Been 1 1 4213 4308 97.79 4
12 Honey Badgers 1 1 4282 4423 96.81 4
13 SHARKS 1 1 4120 4308 95.64 4
14 Squeakeroos 0 2 4154 4192 99.09 0
15 Hondo SCC 0 2 4327 4451 97.21 0
16 Q Before You 0 2 4156 4303 96.58 0
17 REBCats 0 2 4243 4431 95.76 0
18 Cork in the Ocean 0 2 4053 4315 93.93 0

Ecky went thump on the weekend as Captain Fyfe sunk both of the REBCats loophole options. When JJ's hammy went twang that was the end of the comeback and the Fevs now head the table after a handy percentage boost. Of last year's finalists only Les's Men remain unbeaten while last year's stragglers, Poon Army, Underdogs and Captain Who have started the season brightly.

Benny Rolfs are the leading scorer and they broke through for a win against the Badgers who got rolled by 150. In the 'lucky bastard' award I nominate Spiro after he somehow got a win scoring 1937. The Longwood Lions have missed an opportunity there as the SHARKS will be down there with the REBCats this season as a side that should be penciled as a 'W'.

Delicious won their first ever Hogg Premier match after Has Been scored five hundred points fewer than they did against the Cats last week (FFS). Hogg Premier regulars Hondo, Q Man and Squeaky are also looking under the furniture for four points while Corky is doing all this and scoring bugger all as well. Remembering how close it was last year the relegation battle could be starting as soon as next week. Eeeek.

Meanwhile, Poon Army is unbeaten despite scoring scores that would have him outside the eight in Division IV. Where's the justice? #-o

Round 3 Preview
Tips in bold

Has Been v Ecky's Fevolas
SHARKS v Delicious
Poon Army v REBCats
Squeakeroos v Longwood Lions
Q Before You v Cork in the Ocean
Captain Who? v Les's Men
Hondo SCC v Richo Richo Man
Honey Badgers v Pool Swimmers
Ben Rolfsburgers v Underdogs

Match of the round

This week’s match of the round is between two unbeaten sides Les’s Men and Captain Who? The Captain has the ‘bians covered by 100 points so far in the scoring this season so if that means anything at all I expect the Captain to salute by about 35 points. Les’s Men have been well served this season with his Gawnstein Ruck and Three premo mids combination. This might not be enough this time as the Captain has Gawnstein and also has six premo mids. The only downside is that the Captain needs to replace JJ.

The Rest
Benny Rolfs has another tough game against unbeaten Underdogs and I’m tipping the Rolfs to get home in that one. Ecky has started very well this season and I’m tipping them to upset Has Been. Troy has had more arse than Freddy Mercury this season but it’s about to run out as the REBCats will break through for our maiden win. Cripes lose this and I’m GAWN. Squeakeroos have also missed the starting gun but the Lions failed to put away the SHARKS last week and might repeat the dose against Squeaky.

Q and Corky are both struggling at the moment but I reckon Q Man will get off the mark. If Q and REBCats lose this week the Premier League thread will be a more interesting read as we collectively bang our heads against the virtual wall but Q will get up here I feel. Hondo doesn’t deserve to be zip two but zip two he is. He’ll get off the mark against Richo who somehow jagged a win last week. I reckon the Honey Badgers will make short work of the Pool Swimmers and I can see valleys having a Delicious victory over the SHARKS who are a bit Flakey.

I was up by 55 with an extra player against Hondo. A couple of hours later it's me: Dea and Zaharakis v 64 and Pendlebury.

Extremely nervous for the Anzac Day clash now but zakas form should get me over the line I hope.

You'd be a slight favourite I reckon. Unless Buckley wakes up and puts Pendles in the middle.
