I agree with them- don't dare use a classic rock song in an association with the unification of a football club as a pre-match energiser..

Lets be bold and innovative and incept a chant school instead..

Seriously folks- the supporters have taken off with it and it gets everybody into the game, not to mention the players love running out to "not giving in" and having this play before the bounce.

If its not your cup of tea and you think players should be motivated without it, then fair enough- if your club does something pre-game that you really enjoy, once again kudos. But fair dinkum, if we are knocking a pre match energiser that ignites the home crowd and motivates the players, im sorry but you are knit-picking. This is one of the many things port have done right over the past 24 months, and in comparison with mothballs dusting over the tarps of yesteryear- give us a bloody break when we find something that works for our supporter base.

Now, what's happening in that auto correct thread....

I'm not bagging the initiative - I think it's a great initiative, however I've already made it clear that I don't approve of the song

But that's purely my thoughts only as a staunch INXS fan and knowing what that song probably has special meaning to so many people not only in Australia but around the world.

As someone else mentioned - I wonder if they were thinking of that song when they threw the magpies off Alberton oval onto a SAAFL ground.

There, Valleys just came up with a good suggestion - Don't give up - Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel. Serious.

I'm sorry but never tear us apart seems very ironic given recent history.

Nurses thread not the worst one in here anymore.

Nah it does seem a bit silly considering the whole tarp thing

At least we tried something to cover the empty seats up. ;)

Great initiative for crowd participation, better than the bunch of Crows supporters trying to appropriate "Youuuuu Crows", considering CDFC supporters were shitcanned for the much-loved, by us, "Uuuuuuuuuuu Dogs" for as long as I can remember.

However, don't pretend its original, the Newcastle Jets have been using Never Tear Us Apart for some time now.

Its not original- everyone who has 1 iota of knowledge concerning sport knows this concept was pinched from Liverpool among others.

Our marketing team have picked a song that they thought (and I believe) our supporter base can relate to, and its worked.

Although it wasn't a great look to see the tarps up, I actually thought it wasnt a bad idea - they weren't getting large crowds and it was an opportunity to sell space to sponsors, plus condensed the crowd a little bit so there was some sort of atmosphere.

Oh how dare they!

Nobody said it was Port Adelaide's own and an original concept or song.

As for the premise that it is regarding the One Club at Port Adelaide, I think it can be seen as a stance on that or it can be seen as a statement in general that we stand as one, players and supporters side by side. ;)

I dont have a problem with the actual tarps. I have a problem with Port supports singing "you'll never tear us apart" when they're one of the most fickle supporter bases in AFL. When the goings good, everyone bleeds black, white and teal. When things aren't going well they "aren't gonna spend their small weekly spending money on going to watch shit footy."

Never tear us apart? Pa-leeaassse!!

Oh, but many Port supporters did - judging by comments here and elsewhere. One of them was the same one who posted a video of himself on Facebook walking through the Adelaide train station with a chanting throng of supporters and then wrote, "greatest supporters in the world".

True, and not even the best song in INXS' back catalogue...

Well of course, if you're going to take one individual's opinion on Facebook as speaking for all people associated with the same club, then it isn't that particular individual who needs to look at themselves. ;)

No outrage when "Did you bring the vaso?" used it to promote the show.

I didnt call you fickle. The fickle ones are the ones that weren't turning up to AAMI.

When there were 15,000 at games, where were the 35,000 that are suddenly die hard supporters.

I have no problem with Port or what they're doing on field. I've actually barracked for them most games this year.

As a person who dislikes both Port and the Crows, this type of negativity smacks of jealousy. Crows have been #1 in this town for so long and rested on their lawrels. Port have upped the ante massively and the West Lakes crew are currently floundering, especially since they adopted the 19th man rubbish.

As for an alternative song for the Power, how about "(He'll never be an) Old Man River" by TISM? I'd pay to see 40,000 folks jumping around to that.
