"Taking effect for the 2024/25 season, State teams will be known as South Australia Men and South Australia Women, with the new logo in pride of place on playing tops and off-field merchandise."

Elgar has recently signed with Essex for the upcoming county season. Doesn't discount him from playing for the SACA's in 2024/2025 but surely not as a Captain or Coach or both.

He’ll be 37 by the time the season starts here.
Wouldn’t have more than 1 season left anyway.

How is it easier exactly? The standard?

Whilst the standard may not be as strong as the Sheffield Shield it's the amount of cricket played which would be harder on the players compared to Sheffield Shield. There has always more matches played more frequently in the County Championship than the Sheffield Shield. The amount of games played has lessened slightly from 1993 to 2019 (Trescothick's first class career) and I know there's more draws due to rain but a quick look through the end of season tables they still end up playing more first class cricket. Add in their 50 over tournament, the T20 Blast (which run concurrently with the Championship) and now recently The Hundred they play much more cricket in an English summer which I think over time would be harder on players.

And with the English conditions as they are is it harder to be a batter (especially an opening batter) in Sheffield Shield or County Cricket? Or what about a spinner?

Depends on what you deem as easier or harder I suppose.

There are plenty of blokes playing test cricket who are Elgar’s age or older. 37 is the new 32 with cricket these days. I have no issue with someone like that being recruited to play for a couple of seasons. Whether coming off a county season is an issue but I think I read that he’s not planning to play anything other than the 4 day county matches.

You're up against way easier bowlers in county cricket, even in Div 1.

The conditions are tougher for batsmen over there but the Shield easily has the County Championship covered.

Ryan Harris in charge.
Clearly doesn't have any ambitions as a career coach

Nathan McSweeney named the new captain.

Hope that means junior Boof is finished

Good choice as captain
Maybe Lehmann relinquished the role to focus on just batting?
