Player power in control too much? Surely an external voice, not the coach. I lack belief he can be that dissenting voice players need from time to time.

Well with the batting, no one other that Bancroft is anywhere near being worthy of rewarding with a test spot. Our bowling stocks are as good as they have ever been but quality of batting around the shield system is at an all time low.

I think Australia should be awarded all test series and World Cups by default for knowing how to state the score correctly.

This loss proves the Windies loss was not just a one off blimp. Guys who are decent quicks at best are looking like world champions.

When so many are out of touch, it becomes a coaching issue, in particular the batting coach.

Current ages of this Australian team[ off a site so if wrong let me know]
batsmen.....186
keeper.........32
bowlers.......133
total.............351 years...average age 31.9 years old
As I have said in recent times, Australia needs to look to introduce youth into this team somehow and not all at once.
Even if that youth is unproven or under perform at test level.
Trouble is the SS batting in oz is a problem
There are more potential test bowlers however.

Also Hazelwood [33] STARc[34] Lyon [36] cant last forever

The BIGgest loss to come in the current line up would be Nathan Lyon?

Head Carey and to a lesser extent Marsh can cement their spots in the test team for next summer by getting this done.

Carey with 10 has the equal most dismissals in a match for an Australian wicketkeeper in test cricket, Gilchrist the other also against NZ in Hamilton back in 2000.

Having witnessed Test Cricket long enough this Test is 100% in NZ hands. We’re going to give plenty of chances tomorrow and if NZ take them they will win - no hope we’ll go chanceless. Still, NZ have beaten Australia only once at Test level since 1993 and they in my opinion don’t have that killer instinct (They’re too nice). When NZ were at their best they had the hard nosed and incredibly arrogant Richard Hadlee at their helm. Let’s see tomorrow how they fare.

Survive the first half an hour wicketless and Australia will win.

Key is to get as many of the runs before the new ball is due. It’s clearly a much more difficult pitch when the ball is new.
