Cancel culture at its best.

Oh look, this guy is now famous, lets trawl through his online history and find some questionable jokes he made as a teenager and hold him to account today....

What was acceptable 10 years ago is totally different to what you can do today.
Every generation gets more progressive, and that's good for society, but to dig things up from the past and judge them against todays standard is a bit unfair imo.

Totally agree. Someone been holding onto that for years waiting till he plays Test cricket, then out it comes on his first day of his first match. Absolute load of crap

Boris and the Culture Secretary have both criticised the ECB's handling of this. Hopefully the ECB come to their senses and Robinson is back playing for England soon.

The England players will be fined 40% of their match fees for maintaining a slow over rate during the first test at Lords.

Good.

Good.
Does one think that fines are going to solve this issue?

Surely the umpires can start dishing out penalty runs instead

Bit harsh to just blame the fielding side these days with the amount of glove changes etc that take place.

Glove changes only at drinks breaks.
Or penalise batting side
2 overs for every Glove changes and drink changes outside of the normal breaks

There are a lot of glove changes that occur, but not many of them leave the bowler at the top of his mark ready to bowl.
Even if the odd one does, it might be 10 seconds twice a session.
Hardly using up all the extra 30 mins plus the overs the bowling team are still short.

glove changes, site screen changes, minutes on minutes to take initial guard / count the fielders, and then retake guard every third over, mid over chats about a ball that moved 1.5cm of the seam.

Yeah they don't take up all the time but considering they are held accountable for 0% of time wasting it couldn't hurt to make them more responsible.

It was a minimal over rate offence where the whole team is fined 20% per over (England were 2 overs short of their target. The umpires officiating the match were the ones who leveled the charge as Joe Root pleaded guilty and no formal hearing was needed.

Agree, aswell as fines penalty runs need be given out to the offending team, whether they be batting or bowling.

Or perhaps time all the stoppages caused by the batting team, start the time-on clock from when the bowler reaches his bowling marker, if the bowler or captain then try and change the field positioning then the time goes on to the fielding side.

This would get the bowlers back to their mark quicker and ease up the ridiculous amount of glove changes etc. Australia are the worst for that.

Don't they still have the hole in the ground? Surely they could fit a few pairs in there and remove them at the next drinks break if they have been dismissed.

Eight ball overs are part of the solution I reckon.

I suspect it'll never happen as it would mean fewer ad breaks.

The second test between England and New Zealand has started, looks to be overcast in Birmingham but dry.
Joe Root won the toss, England are batting first and are currently 0/11.

New Zealand have 6 changes to their team!
Out- Williamson (elbow injury), Watling (back injury), Jamieson, Santner, De Grandhomme and Southee
In- Young, Blundell (wk), Mitchell, Patel, Henry and Boult

Just the one change for England, Olly Stone replaces Ollie Robinson.

This is Jimmy Anderson's 162 test, he now has played the most test matches for England.

Rory Burns for me is the most frustrating batsman to watch and has been for quite some time. The amount of deliveries he plays and squirts of his outside edge behind point and through the slips is actually f**ked. The NZ bowlers have bowled some really good deliveries to him this morning (and some pretty standard deliveries) and he continues to get runs behind point with some terrible shots with no control. The worst are when he goes to play at leg glance and the ball ends up at the third man boundary.

He's been in some great form recently but surely he can't get away with playing and scoring like that.

Don't think he will get many in his half of the pitch this summer
