One of the few commentators that I really loved listening too. Had an unmistakable voice and knew what he was talking about.

Listening to a West Indies match won't be the same.

Many of the commentators I grew up with are passing away sadly.

RIP Tony

Agreed, kept it simple, a very distinctive voice.

RIP.

Importantly, he didn't talk a) crap or b) about himself.

The current generation of commentators could take a leaf out of Tony Cozier's book...

Tony Cozier was the West Indian Richie Benaud of broadcasting. Insightful, intelligent, incredibly knowledgeable, unbiased, entertaining, humorous. The full package, cricket will be poorer for his passing. Listened to a TMS podcast today where Jonathan Agnew spoke to Michael Holding about Tony, Mikey was literally in tears talking about him. Respect to a great of cricket.

It was also mentioned that Tony learned a lot on his first tour as a journo from the late Alan McGilvray in the 60's. Blokes like those two are as rare as hen's teeth these days, the vast majority of Australian broadcasters/telecasters aren't even in the same ballpark and the game's poorer for it.

Nearly all of the commentators of my youth are now gone. Radio was a thing of beauty and can be so again due to the juvenile antics of Slater, Warne, Healy and Taylor...dross of the highest order that should result in thousands of worn out mute buttons every Summer. Long live the great commentators Arlott, McGilvary, cosier, Beneaud.

regards,

REB

Gary Cosier was a commentator?
