I read that as television double headers - i.e afternoon game in perth leading straight into a night fixture in melbourne

I thought it would be a twilight game in Hobart followed by a Perth fixture.

Yeah that too. I just read it like that rather than a double header at a single ground.

On that though, I assume the women's BBL will be curtain raisers?

Yeah, apparently so. The women's comp is really taking off, having experienced first hand how much is going into the foundations of women's cricket is really cementing the future.

Yep also agree.... Channel Ten pretty much butcher every sport they cover, despite this the BBL coverage was still watchable.
1961, 1971, 1976, 1978, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991, 2008, 2013, 2014, 2015.... And don't you forget it!

The thing that makes it watchable is that they have the schedule almost perfect. Basically every night in the school holidays you can turn the TV on and chances are there is a game of T20 on. That is pretty huge imo. It means ill flick it on to see who is playing - if there were gaps of even a day or two i might not do that, and i would be more inclined to just seek out the strikers games, but because of the schedule I just turn it over every night.

Having said that, you hear rumblings about more teams and matches all the time, and i think any more and it would just reach saturation point. I guess they could start holding more than 1 match per night, but i dont think they could lengthen the season anymore, otherwise it would a) go too long, and b) cut into the rest of the season.

I think the 50 over comp should follow a similar format but be at the start of the season - not a carnival style like it is now

It's going to be interesting to see how long the infatuation with T/20 lasts. I'm a cricket tragic so I will watch most games anyway. Even watching a bit of the Carribean T/20 on foxtel, although the highlight for me is the cheerleaders.... Oh I like those dark ladies.... Sorry I digress! I think you are correct if they make the season much longer than it already is & introduce more teams - I reckon "Johnny Public" will begin to tune out..... The 50 over game has really become irrelevant in my eyes.... I watched the world cup, but the triangle series is not much more than background noise for me...

Yeah that's true. I'm more likely to watch a strikers game than game 6 of a 7 game one day series that Australia is playing in.

T20 is here to stay, it puts bums on seats.

I actually like the ODI's, I don't watch every ball religiously but I find it very chess like, there's times to attack and times to retreat.

That's what I like most about test cricket too - the smaller battles within the overall game. Whether that is one partnership digging in, or a bowler working over a batsman etc etc. one day cricket has retained a bit of that, you are right.

T/20 is here to stay, I never said it was going away. My point was MORE teams in the domestic T/20 MIGHT see the casual viewer number drop..... MIGHT...

50 over cricket (domestic or International) has the slow periods of play.... strange thing though I find that part of test cricket intriguing, but boring in the one dayers!

Agree that the Tri Series is dead and buried

Interesting that the English County 20/20 competition has declined in recent years. Some of the bigger stadiums (The Test venues) in the UK were not getting sell outs as they once were. However this was probably due to the saturation of the format. From what I have read they have pulled it back a bit but then I have read that they are thinking about reducing the amount of First Class games from 16 (9 teams home and away) down to 12. Anyway I refuse to take any great interest in the BBL since Cricket Australia decided that blokes can up root themselves for 6 weeks and move interstate to play with arch enemies during the Shield.

Having said all that I'm off to New Road, Worcester on Friday to get a County 20/20 match in before heading to Edgbaston for the next Test. The home team are top of their group with this being the last group fixture before the finals.
