1st Test South Africa vs West Indies

Postby spell_check » Thu Dec 18, 2014 6:26 pm

Denesh Ramdin wins the toss, bowls (Amla said he would have done the same) and...

...end of day one, South Africa 3/340 (they actually bowled 91 overs in the allotted time, would you believe)

All three wickets were on 57 - openers Peterson (27); Elgar (28) and for a small surprise du Plessis an eight ball duck. Then Amla (133*) and de Villiers (141*) right the ship with an unbeaten 283 run stand.

The next man in is debutant Stiaan van Zyl; I don't think waiting all that time to be the next one in on your debut would be preferable I reckon!

West Indies Cricket is so so so ordinary at the moment, it's embarrasing

There back to using the likes of Kemar Roach and Sulimen Benn who have proven they are not up to test level

Windies best hope this test is to slow the scoring rate down and then try and bat for a draw, with the SAggies not being agressive enough

Windies finally get the breakthrough

Benn gets De Villiers

I'll be interested to see how this Van Zyk goes

The saffies tend to always have one bunny in their top 6, this bloke could be the key

Chelsea and Man U should win

But be careful betting on the EPL during the Xmas period, due to fixture congestion there tends to be a lot of odd results

Have watched West Indian Leon Johnson bat twice in test matches now and imho looks extremely impressive

Is a 27 year old middle order left handed batsmen

A pity Darren Bravo is out indefinitely citing personal reasons

Jermaine Blackwood is a 23 year old who is batting at number 6 for the Windies this test, only averages 35 at first class level but has been the leading runscorer in West Indian 4 day cricket the last two years, is a pretty agressive bat

Other than that, it was a rout, South Africa only needed 18 wickets to win the match with Roach injured and win by an innings and 220 runs

whufc, I agree west indies cricket is awful but kemar roach is quality and with darren bravo one of the only things to like. The only problem is hes always injured but hes their first picked bowler. He has an averages of 27 and has a 10fa against the aussies.

Explain this for me: Roach has 113 test wickets at a shade under 26, wouldn't be too many current test fast bowlers with a better record than that.

The key moment in this match came when south Africa were 3 for 102 and roach clipped alma's stumps but the bails didn't dislodge - at 4 for 100 with a debutant coming in under pressure it could've been very different

Body can't handle the rigours of test cricket, misses far to too many test matches

Makes Shane Watson look like Courtney Walsh

Steyn bowled a ball so wide it made the Harmisson ball look tame. Would have missed at least another 10 sets of stumps

What's really frustrating is the Windies batting is pretty good with 3 of their top 6, 23 years or younger plus Darren Bravo who is their best bat

The bowling is junk though and will be lucky to bowl the saffies out for less than 450
