Shocking news, brought back memories for me of the Rick Darling incident.

Hope Phil makes a full recovery as soon as is possible.

Yes whufc a tragic accident, to be honest havent been game enough to watch it but some are saying he got hit in the jugular vein and others in the heart, either way very nasty. Also thoughts to shaun abbott that delievered the ball, one could not imagine what he is feeling and going through right now

Generally thinking of the family and get well soon.

Mark Boucher springs to mind, would have only played against him a handful of times. Former teammates from County Cricket mind you some of them are actually in Australia at present.

i'll admit i haven't been a big Hughes supporter when it comes to test selection...

BUT this injury is sickening and i really hope he comes out of this ok... Must be bloody heartbreaking being a family member and watching this happen...

Just read the MSN Sport statement from the helmet manufacture, What a heatless pack of absolute wankers. Stating that Hughes had an old model helmet on and the 'new' updated version has protection in the area Hughes was hit.

For starters, That's bullshit. I have never seen a helmet that would protect where Hughes was hit. Not to mention Hughes is still in Hospital and these pricks are trying to sell there new helmet. IMO absolute disgrace.

For the record I don't see this as anyone's 'fault' so to speak its just a very unfortunate thing that from time to time happens, There shouldn't be any knee jerk reactions IMO.

Just hope Hughes has a full and speedy recovery, Times like this you don't even think about playing again, First and foremost is Hughes's health.

I was thinking last night, Shane Watson got hit on the side of the neck/lower back of head area when in the 90s against England if I remember rightly. He batted on and made his ton, then got our shortly after. Very lucky for him the same result didn’t happen.

Hats off to NSW team doctor, by the sounds of it he did a great job until medics arrived.

Yep agreed there he did a bloody good job. His quick actions has bt all reports given Phil the best possible chance of recovery.

Yep agree with that. Very poor by the manufacturer.

Again, why is it poor? A lot of people are questioning the helmet design. Questions were posed by people in this forum about the helmet, questions have been asked by commentators about the helmet and comparisons to problems experienced in County cricket.
People are asking the question, they want to know, the media's asking.
I think people are being incredibly reactionary.

I don't think they had a choice but to comment. Ideally, they wouldn't have wanted to. But today's world means we want immediate response, otherwise people keep asking and the longer you're silent, the more it looks suspicious. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Another context:
F1 driver's tyre explodes, he slams into wall and has serious life-threatening accident. The tyre and its makers come into question. Company comes out and explains why it would/won't have happened. Are we unhappy with them doing so?
