King William Road / Sheffield Shield

I've been a long time cricket spectator at Adelaide Road
I've almost had enough of attending SS matches at this venue
Today I witnessed VI avoid an outright defeat
i've heard a lot of reasons from a lot of cricket followers about the lack of success of SA teams

One of the reasons this side lacks success can be summed up by a comment :
Made to me by the late great David Hookes
" We cant win Sheffield Shields playing at Adelaide Oval" [Well, we know what he meant }

This season is a glaring example of why we find it hard to win Sheffield Shields
4 Away games for 4 outright results
4 Home games for 0 outrights[including 1 match at Brighton 'Road']

At various times it has appeared that other interstate curators have produced result decks
But SA curators continue to produce too many bowler unfriendly decks

There was a time when the Adelaide Oval pitch was bowler friendly
Then SA recruited an Englishman Jesse Hide as a player coach and to prepare pitches
The Adelaide Oval became more batter friendly with the influence of Jesse Hide
When did this all happen ?
About the time Norwood won its first Premiership ...

Agree Mal, what a disgrace.
Its time the curators start producing decks for results

Cool story bro, but how do explain South Australia having the lowest percentage of drawn Sheffield Shield matches of the 6 states in history?

How do you explain South Australia having the highest losing percentage of Sheffield Shield games of the 6 states in history?

As your well aware we have been a very ordinary side for long parts of our history. Over the last few years I would think the percentage of wins at AO would be a fair bit lower than other venues. I think our record away this year would reflect that

AO does incorrectly have a perception of a road for tests even though results prove otherwise

Well the only logical solution is all shield cricket to be played at the true home of South Australia cricket Complex 2 at Port Pirie Senate Road Sporting Complex.

I always thought the Adelaide Oval wicket was one of the most even in world cricket. Bit in it for the quicks early, nice for batting after, then spinners get some help later on.

Mal, you forgot that they are also drop in pitches now.

I think in tests it is quite even because it does exactly what you say but in the shield the spinners dont have the benefit of a fifth day and batting on day 3 and 4 is a joy
You are correct about the drop in pitches, hope they can get it sorted

Part of the possible explanation [apart from very recent times]
Our batsman bat on featherbeds and accumulate lots of easy runs on KW Road
There is more seam movement on some other decks , our batsman find it hard at times to adjust
Its easier for batters from interstate to adjust to Adelaide Oval
