How can the umpires justify an extra half an hour to get a result when SA need 3 wickets and they havnt taken one for 40 minutes.

And now they are umpiring according to who has reviews left. SA have none so they are giving the benefit to them

I'm not sure I like the extra 1/2 hour rule. I get that it saves a lot of hassle for games that are nearly completed to get them done rather than come back the next day. Problem is though, it looks likely to be an extra 1/2 an hour of game time rather than just pinching that time from tomorrow. Just seems that if you're not able to do the job in the allotted time then bad luck.

Still, we've been miles off SA here. Batting just wasn't good enough in the face of a fairly tidy attack. If we do somehow survive with a weather induced draw it would be nice, but plenty to ponder heading into the third test either way.

I do agree with this. If they're going to have the rule, should be some parameters such as needing less than what the previous 1/2 an hour yielded.

Only problem is in this case it is an extra half hour on top of the extra half hour they already used because of poor over rates.
If they can extend play when a result is on the line why not give the paying public 90 overs a day in every test match and extend play until they are completed.

I'm unsure if it will be 8 overs in this "half Hour" or 30mins.
Will find out soon enough
