That hurts and he knows it. Everything in this session was leading to a chance.

That’s a bad a drop as I’ve seen

Same end Gillys famous drop that made him think, that’s it, I’m done!

33 minutes late, and they're still an over short.

Lots of short stuff today.

2/221 at stumps. Massive grind of a day.

Hopefully a nice counter attack tomorrow and look to have England in after tea

Disgraceful, obviously the massive fines and loss of WTC points in Brisbane wasn't the kick up the backside they needed to help hurry them up.

So what WILL make them bowl the overs in time? Clearly the fines didn't change things from the first test. What is the next step in the penalty ladder? I'm not in favour of penalty runs because teams will counter that by not bowling their overs on purpose, like today when they are under pressure.

I say, bowl the overs. Make them stay out there (light permitting). That way the batsman know how many overs they'll face in a day, rather than guess.

It's become farcical. I've said it before but test cricket is dying. FFS, do SOMETHING.....

My son is 12 and working his way through club cricket. My sole message to him and his teammates when bowling is to try and hit the top of off stump.

Clearly I should be spending my time coaching England.

BTW, 1 of those that was hitting the stumps pitched outside leg. Not out! ;-)

How bad was that? As a Z grade cricketer, I'd be lucky for that to be dropped by the keeper if I nicked it like that. Seriously some people are kissed on the you know what.

Harris must be wondering what black cat he threw at a mirror from under a ladder on Friday the 13th! That catch on Harris's was one for the ages.

A real radical idea to increase the over rate is when time is complete the overs must still be bowled but the bowling team gets none of the wickets they take.

That would certainly be interesting. Last night it would have been 10 over of the Aussies just teeing off.

Honestly I think bowling the additional overs on that session was a big advantage to England. Hence I would have called time at the end of play. Then get them up 30 mins the next morning to make up for it.

Same again the following day. They are only allowed the allocated time at night to bowl.

And bring back suspending the captain as well.

You would have to think the first session today will almost decide the test.

Australia will want to kick on, lift the scoring in preparation for a twilight declaration. This will provide England with an oppurtunity as statistically the first session of the day/night tests has been the hardest to bat. I think they said there had been 64 wickets at around 24 runs per wicket (obviously inflated from the India test last year).

If Australia have a good session and finish 3/300 there is no coming back for England. On the other hand this will provide England an oppurtunity if they can get an early wicket and expose Head, Green, Carey, Neser they could take 5/50 and have it pegged back to 7/270, we saw how hard it was for all batsmen to get a start on day 1.

The spanner in the works will be if we see another 1/42 session (3/260) This will make it hard for Australia to declare as early as they would like unless we can find a way to score real quick in the last session and half. Wouldn't be many times in test cricket that a team declares there first innings at no more than 400 when there has been no rain delays.

Joe Root: Brilliant batsman, handy part-time spinner, woeful tactician.

I just can't wrap my head around leaving Broad and Ando out of Brisbane and then they open the bowling in Adelaide.

Brisbane is the absolute mecca for a seamer.

Allowing the Poms extra time to bowl their overs last night was a disgrace, if you start the day with 12 overs in the first hour of play you're no chance of getting the 90 in the day.

Having said that, I've said it before and I'll say it again, the onus is on the umpires to keep the game moving. Changing gloves every 3 overs, drinks every time they run a 2 or 3, towels to wipe down and the list goes on and on and on. Umpires need to tell them to get on with it and then they should get on with it.

Fox last night was talking about the slow over rate only to interview Labuschagne in a drinks break, Smith actually ended up telling Labuschagne to get moving.

6 runs for every over not bowled by the scheduled close of play and make them byes. There's two players who drive over rates, captains and keepers, threaten the keepers with 30 byes a day if they're 5 overs short and watch them get things moving. No extra time permitted unless, like soccer, injuries hold up play for an extended period.

Aussies may bat all day today and try to get 500 on the board and bowl poms twice...

Can’t wait to see the two aged pensioners and the ginger ninja trundle in for 60 overs in 40 degree heat. Hope the ambos are on standby or perhaps Jimmy and Broad might “invent” a injury :)

Agree with this.

I'm cautious about punishing just the fielding side, yes they have been slow but the batters are absolutely no better.

Smith changed his gloves after 15 balls last night FFS come on. Batsmen walking down the pitch to chat every couple of balls.

Another big contributor is the fact that the batsmen have become so extravagant and can hit to pretty much any part of the ground off all kinds of crazy lengths and lines. Throw in modern day sport, the big dollars, the over analysis from 360 degree of media and captains just have to try and get each field 100% spot on. Long gone are the days where every batsmen tries to play in the V for their first 50 balls and you just had a keeper, 3 slips, gully, point, cover, mid off, mid on, fine leg.

Not sure you can hit 300 in a day in the day/night tests. Has that happened before, maybe when Warner hit all those runs against the Pakistanis.
