I didn't say either of them deserved a spot

With our batting depth I don't think an all-rounder is totally necessary, Cummins, Starc and Lyon can all defend themselves, so too Hazelwood.

WA have produced so many "in between" players, dating back to Marcus North, they've had so many players that smash it at domestic level but struggle to produce consistently at the top level, is it pitch related?

I'm not sure that that many of the WA players picked for Australia in recent years have 'smashed it' at domestic level. There have been quite a number of them picked on perceived potential without standing out in the Shield.

I get blokes can be just plain out of from but with Weatherald you have to ponder if the winter at the Cricket Academy has helped him or not. Seemed to be going okay last year & not sure if they have altered his technique or what but he has gone backwards quickly.

Mitch Marsh with 30 and 2 wickets in the second innings, that enough for him to be named vice captain in the test team.

Not sure arguably the best bowling attack in the world needs a 5th all rounder / bowler whose not strong enough with the bat to hold their spot

Probably a good idea to play the 6 batsman to bolster the batting- Finch, Harris, Khawaja, S. Marsh, Handscomb and Head. Also, I think Marsh with his military medium pace will be the weak link in the attack and the Indians will take him apart and score bulk runs off him.

Won't happen though, Marsh will play.

Just saw replay of his dismissal, leaving a ball on middle stump, absolutely plum. That shows a man out of form.

No doubt Ferg will make a 50 this innings to save his spot, so Weatherald must be dropped for the last Shield game before the break and replaced with Kelvin Smith.

Copeland's taken a few wickets this year, been NSW's leading wicket-taker in just about every innings it seems.

4 down already, Ferg still in who will no doubt put some runs on the board when it doesn't matter again.

When people talk about players at the top of the game, churning out runs regularly, you hear often "understand their game" or "know their game".. unfortunately, it seems, particularly early on when someone shows potential that the CA "experts" like to come in and tinker with techniques or change players styles. It's practically a complete reset of what they know.

It seems it's not until they reach the later parts of their careers they realise **** looking pretty and listening to Greg Chappell, i'm going to do what works for me.. and natural talent takes over from those faulty techs and they have success.

Also T20 and the new SS scoring system have played a massive part in fluctuating performance - players need to come and look to score every ball, be creative and 360 degree players.
