You would have to think with the years on years of data CA would have from attendances to tv ratings etc there must be a reason they haven't permanently moved tests to a Friday start. Just can't figure out what that would be.

Has to be minimum days between tests I’m thinking. The Boxing Day test and NY test get locked in first and then everything fixtured around that.

Personally i would think day 1 crowds are the best regardless of what day they are on, so have them on a Friday where you get a sell out.

Then day 2 / 3 on the weekend when ticket sales will be great due to being the weekend.

They won’t do that because that’s when the majority of followers play, it hinders attendance and more important to them, it decreases viewer numbers and that’s where the revenue is generated.

I could be wrong (I was once) but for memory day 1 for Adelaide tests used to be on a Friday, it was the most sacred day of the year for any south Aussie cricket enthusiast, it was difficult to get a ticket regardless of the opposition.

Didn't think the first two days crowds were too bad, but it did look and feel ordinary in such a soulless stadium. Agree that Adelaide has been screwed this year. Hard to believe WA keep producing far better cricketers than SA but the general public have little interest in Test cricket.

Need to get back to the WACA.

And on that, it's a shame sport can't find a niche for 25-30k ovals (rather than stadiums) like the WACA, the old Adelaide Oval and Princess Park could have been for footy. There's talk about the Gabba redevelopments for the Olympics and what might happen to their tests. A couple of hills and a couple of stands like the old Chappell stands (maybe a touch bigger) at Alan Border Oval and they could have a great Test IMO.

with series being so compacted these days, it is now common for a test to start on a thursday with another starting the following friday

CA stuffed it up this year cos the 2nd only starts next tuesday

Yes I remember Adelaide test matches mostly starting on Fridays and Brisbane test matches would start Thursdays.

Adelaide test is starting on a Wednesday and against a real minnow yet I’m willing to bet we have a better attendance than Perth

Interesting to see how the Adelaide test match being a regular day match effects attendance aswell.

South Australian's seem to be test match nuffies and will attend, despite the quality of the opposition or day it starts. Other states, I don't see the passion like we do here.

Numbers are distorted given the timing that we usually get it and the fact it’s a twilight test.

Even taking those factors into account LM, and going back 30+ years, we've always pulled in a lot more than Perth and Brisbane.

When you consider the population living within 100km of the Gabba, some of the non-Ashes Brisbane crowds have been ridiculous.
