Zampa with a wicket in his first over brings out the big dog Babar, interested to see how he goes here. The pitch appears pretty flat

I'm a huge Mitch Owen fan and can't work out for the life of me why we play him and then plonk him down the order? No lower than 3 for mine.

Should open with him, Short has done very little in recent times and is still beyond me why they bowl Matt Short, he leaks runs every over

Owen Connolly and Phillipe (bar one innings) barely scored a run in the BBL
I'm not sure Matt Short is international quality
Edwards is a Cheap as Chips version of the Spud
Beardman is young thats all he has shown so far

Good thing when the real stuff starts we get

David - Hasn't played for more than a month
Maxwell - Deep fried cooked
Cummins - Hasn't played in ages
Hazlewood - Hasn't played in ages
Ellis - Recently injured

Apart from that it all looks positive

Not like for like I know, but it's hard to see how the Big Show makes the squad ahead of Smith (and dare I say it Warner).

Why the hell would we rush Hazlewood back after he had to miss an entire Ashes series, he is not the difference between winning this comp or not, put him on ice and prepare him for red ball cricket, or is a sign of the times?

While we're on it, I might be a lone soldier here but I really don't get the hype for Ellis, that stupid little wankish thing he does at the start of his run up gets up my grill too.

Connolly and Beardman I am happy to see hanging around the squad for some work experience, would love to see Hardie in there too.

Hopefully Tim Michael Jason Stephen Phillip Craig David is ready by start date, anything to keep him out of the commentary box, the bloke belongs on a barcode advert.

Smith has to be added. He was like an adult playing under 12's during the BBL.

Aus has so many options to open the batting so Owen is a fair way down the pecking order at the moment.

Short only playing in these glorified trial matches, he doesn't play (well shouldn't) with Marsh and Maxwell in the team.

By all reports Hazlewood was always planning to play in the tournament as it's Australia's next major tournament and whether you like it or not he's going to make himself available for it to help Australia try and win it as he has been an outstanding T20 bowler and has become a better T20 bowler than Cummins.

Ellis is highly rated and been very good for Australia since debuting almost by surprise.

It really doesn't bother me, it just surprises me, I guess they hold the silverware in high regard.

Interesting that Cummins hasn't played in an international T20 since 2024.

Happy to be shot down with facts once again, Ellis' numbers are impressive when he's on song.

Like you said in your initial post Hazlewood aiming to play in the World Cup despite missing the Ashes is a sign of the times.

Interested to see how Cummins goes and whether he plays or not, if he doesn't I don’t think it's a bad thing as he hasn't been that good for Australia in T20I's.
