Australian International Summer 2025/26

First Class Cricket Talk (International and State)

Just having a look at the future tours. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone except Khawaja tries for either the 150th Anniversary Test or next WTC Final before announcing retirement, if form is good enough. Or will others announce their retirement this summer? An Ashes victory at home is a good way to go out as the fixture is jam-packed the summer after.

So does the team transition this cycle, or do we possibly see over half the team, and potentially all of the bowlers, retire at once? Most likely new players will at least rotate through (especially bowlers) in the South Africa/NZ/India series.

When the next cycle begins in November 2027, will it only be Head, Green and Konstas from the current XI taking to the field?

Khawaja 38
Konstas 19
Green 26
Smith 36
Head 31
Webster 31
Carey 33
Cummins 32
Starc 35
Hazlewood 34
Lyon 37

Laubuschagne 31
Boland 36

25/26 5 Test Ashes
2026
August - One off test Afghanistan
Sept/Oct - 3 Test Series South Africa
Dec/Jan 27 - 4 Test Series NZ
2027
Jan/Feb 5 Test Tour of India
March 150th Anniversary Test vs England MCG
June WTC Final

Obviously the bowlers are aging and it appears they will all retire in a similar period however it feels we are better covered with bowlers than batters.

At least with the bowlers we have blokes that have performed well at test level, thinking Boland, Neser, Kuhnemann and Murphy (albeit in favourable sub continent conditions)

Yes the Boland and Neser are aging but they could still do a job for a year or two if given the oppurtunity.

I'm not sure we can say the same with the batters, what maybe Paterson is one who has been successful at test level. Couldn't say the same about Harris, wouldn't include Handscombe either. Other than that, whoever we try is going to be unproven or had very modest starts to their test career eg McSweeney.

**** Khawaja. Stuck on the crease every time. Not going to get any better. Selfish AF IMO. A walking wicket. I'm astonished he's not too embarrassed to keep walking out there. He's done.
