Statement from Cricket Victoria regarding the events of yesterday

Cricket Victoria CEO Tony Dodemaide has issued the following statement regarding an incident with Victorian bowling coach Mick Lewis which saw the Bushrangers penalised five runs on day three of the Sheffield Shield Final and Lewis also fined.

Lewis pleaded guilty to a level two offence and accepted a fine equal to 50% of a player's match fee, as determined by the match referee Steve Bernard.

"Cricket Victoria does not condone any action to gain an unfair advantage in any form, we're committed to playing fair cricket in the spirit of the game.

"Myself and Cricket Victoria chairman Russell Thomas immediately spoke to Mick and he has apologised unreservedly and understands that this reflects unfairly on the Bushrangers and all of Victorian cricket.

"Mick pleaded guilty to Cricket Australia's code of behaviour breach and has also accepted a severe reprimand, imposed upon him as a Cricket Victoria employee, and assured us that actions such as this will not happen again.

"Mick also went personally to South Australian coach Jamie Siddons and apologised after the day's play.

"Victorian coach David Saker was extremely disappointed in Mick's actions and also that he cost the side five runs in what could be a very close match.

"We believe that Mick will learn a valuable lesson from this and understands this type of behaviour will not be tolerated."

basically cops a $2000 or thereabouts fine

I'm sure Lewis is sorry. Sorry he got caught.
As if this is the first time he's done it.
Weak as piss punishment for blatant, premeditated cheating.

Daniel Brettig from ESPN is reporting that CV has also given a 2nd and final warning under the terms of his employment contract.

A good first hour for the 'Backs. If one of these two is still batting deep into the second session we're every chance.

Key will be if we are no more than 5 down after the new ball has been seen off.
If the Vics get a look at our tail with a new-ish ball, we'll be in all sorts.

Why play that shot after all that hard work? just keep batting surely? Forcing the issue not necessary.

Terrible, terrible shot. Absolutely ridiculous! Just got dropped the shot before going for the slog, then tries the same thing next ball. What was he thinking! That sort of shot changes the game, and I bet we struggle to get a 200 lead now.

Granted, Jake batted well and is a young lad, but seriously Jake, WTF!!

It starts the collapse see, Carey out. Bloody idiots!
