I wonder if that is completely off the cards now.

On the radio this afternoon Chris Rogers was on a crusade for Shaun Marsh coming back into the side, replacing Renshaw. He was saying it's horses for courses and that a senior player who is a proven run getter in the subcontinent in Marsh comes straight back in. Renshaw was 80 odd not out at that point.

I like Bucky on the radio and respect the majority his calls. On this occasion I couldn't disagree more.

Its a real tough one and you can understand why Rogers would make a call like that considering our horrible England Ashes performances while he has starred over there for years.

I would hate to see Renshaw dropped but the selectors are paid to pick the best eleven blokes who will win the next test match. If having Marsh in the side ahead of Renshaw on an Indian wicket means Australia are a better chance of winning i guess they have to make that selection.

Here is a thought:

-All formats of cricket have now changed that teams pick specialist line ups to suit that format
-All teams selector bowling lineups that best suit bowling conditions

Is the next step selectors pick batting line ups that best suit the upcoming conditions (its not really the done thing to the level of selecting a bowling lineup etc)

daysofourlives wrote:I agree with the rumours if Renshaw cant play spin replace him. I dont care who you are we have to pick the best 6 players of spin for the Indian tour, we will get day 5 pitches from day 1 for the entire tour and if we dont then the openers have to score quickly and take advantage of the hard new ball. Either way it doesnt suit Renshaw. Dont ask me who the 6 are though, at a pinch id pencil in S Marsh, Warner, Smith and Handscombe
Sweeping Shah on a Day 1 Sydney wicket is that far off an Indian wicket its not funny

100% agree but i hadn't seen him sweep that much before so got the feeling i got after hearing the rumours was that maybe he has also been told of the upcoming changes and this was an opportunity for him to show how he would play spin when over there.

I wouldn't be worried if Marsh plays. He'll ping a hammy in the field in the 1st test and Renshaw will play anyway. You know it will happen.

Marsh will go as the backup batsman imo. Give Renshaw first crack at it.

I guess it wont be the worst thing in the world to drop a 20 year old though, he will have plenty of time to build his career.

Still reckon they could pick Marsh at number 6 and tell warner and smith to work on their bowling to the point where they can get 10-15 overs between them per innings.

The aussies will get flogged in india no matter what, you wont get 20 wickets as you have no class spinners. Give Renshaw a go and he will be better for it future tours of india where you may be a chance of winning.

Have heard Smith wont bowl again as he has similar back issues to what plagued Clarke throughout his career.

Yeah, ive heard that too, which makes a fair amount of sense as to why he wont give himself any overs.

Hell, why not give matthew wade some overs, his seam up looked ok, and handscomb can take the gloves :D

Handscomb should be taking gloves and bat 6. Then Shaun Marsh can bat at 5. Then it free us up to play 5 specialist bowlers. Or an all rounder at 7.

Handscomb stopped keeping awhile back to work on his batting and doesn't want to take the gloves back.

Exactly, if we are really advocating playing handscomb as our keeper we are just falling into the same trap that we have been criticising the selectors for

Yeah but it gives us the option to bat deeper or play 5 bowlers.

We have different bowling attacks for different terrains (even for different states in Aus)
